1) Eating window-- do eat one meal or graze? Mine is from 7am to abt 12ish-- I tend to graze
2) Do you ever get tired of eating this way? I am getting frustrated already--it has only been about 1 month and no weight loss (mostly weight gain!!!) I wasnt a grain eater before-but I have been upping my fats significantly in order to reach Ketosis (sp?)-does that make a difference for weight loss?
I think I mentioned this before -- I am experimenting with this lifestyle and will give it 3 months before I give up. So far NO GOOD-- I feel bloated and heavier and def more tired and muscle soreness like u would not believe!
This may be TMI -- but my breats have def been VERY sore/swollen/tender also--and not just TOM. Could it be the upping of fats?
First off, grazing or meals, that's individual.
Second: eating fat won't get you into ketosis. Limiting dietary glucose and fructose gets you into ketosis. In fact, if you don't limit dietary fat then you're in a calories in calories out situation anyway.
1) That's totally up to you. IMO, whatever is the most convenient
2) Upping fats doesn't put you in ketosis, lowering carbs does. You might be gaining weight due to something as simple as eating too much.
If you're aiming for ketosis, or are currently in ketosis, you will be more tired as your body adapts to running off of fat instead of carbs. Personally, I never suffered from being bloated/sore; how is your salt intake? Water intake?
I have been "pure" Paleo for about 6 months now. You REALLY have to listen to your body. I tend to eat differently every day. Some days I'll eat once or twice, others up to 6x. You def have to know how to cook. I do a lot of buffalo n boar roasts, chili, stews in the sun oven with turnips n other veggies. We make a lot of souped, too. Currently, the fav is Butternut squab n pear with coconut milk, curry, n ginger! I typically workout between 5am-7am every morning n breakfast between 10am-11am. Yesterday, I ate 4 eggs scrambled in ghee with a mashed avocado and a veggie smoothie consisting of broccoli, carrots, n celery. Quite filling. A lil later I grabbed a handful of almonds, macadamias, n walnuts. Dinner was grilled wild alaskan salmon with mashed garlic turnips n brussel sprouts. I am in the BEST shape of my life approaching 42 and you should see my wifes shredded abs 8 months after having our baby! You just gotta be creative and most importantly LISTEN to your body. This IS a lifestyle. Throw away your shoes or buy Vibrams, throw out your TV n go outside n play!!!!
"upping my fats" - how are doing it? - gorging on "fat" (pure fat) just for its own sake? - when i started paleo i was under the same (misguided i should say) fataholic spell, eating copious amounts of tallow / butter, and wondering why i was getting heavier - yes, you should not be afraid of fat (good fats that is - in meat, fish, eggs) but this is the most nutrient dense macro, and it goes straight into your adipocytes; "significantly in order to reach Ketosis" - are trying to cure cancer? you do not need to up you fats to be in ketosis - long enough fast will get you there with much less concurring dangers then gulping pure fat
I started eating Paleo beginning of January and it's taken me until about 2 weeks ago to really start to feel good on it. Don't give up!! I did have to stop eating fruit and most nuts and I added in some heavy cream and allowed myself a glass or two of wine :)
Now I feel really good and although I haven't lost any weight on the scale, I've lost a couple of inches around my waist and I am pretty certain some of my fat is now muscle. I was also super bloated, tired and hungry (see my question http://paleohacks.com/questions/20406/beginner-and-hungry-all-the-time#axzz1E45NFPrJ)
but I feel so good now!!!
How active are you? If you are very high fat and sedentary you will put on weight. You should still eat to your energy requirements, if you are an athlete then obviously you are going to need more energy and lots of fat is a fantastic way of getting it, however if you are in an office job then your energy requirements will be much less. Fat is a fantastic source of energy and nutrients but like anything you can over do it.
1) Weekdays I'm on a schedule, which is psychological because of the typical work day. I get up from my desk for lunch at 11:30 every day like a robot. On the weekends I see a more random eating pattern.
2) Yes I get tired of eating like a robot during the week. Habits associated with the clock are hard to break.
I would recommend counting calories for a while to see where you are with that, the others are probably right, I find it easy to over-calorie with fats. Carb flu can kick your butt for a while, eat a potato once or twice a week (preferably post workout)
I usually eat 2 to 3 meals a day (big egg breakfast at 8am tides me over till 2-3pm). I don't graze anymore, just not hungry.
I think you really need to track what you're eating in the day for a bit. I suspect you're eating a lot more 'bad' calories than you think.
I've never strived to get into ketosis as I workout quite a bit and find I feel better with some carbs post workout (usually in the form of butternut or spaghetti squash) with whatever meat I eat. I would suggest taking a more positive approach. The tone of your posts is that you have already given up. Maybe your "happy point" is not in ketosis but with a few more "good" carbs and a little less fat. Give yourself the three months you have said you would. Tweak as necessary. I haven't gone through a full month of Whole30, but that might be another option as well.
