Before I made the switch to Paleo, I was getting kind of bored with my hobbies. You can only play so many video games (hundreds) before you've played 'em all, you know? Since starting Paleo, I feel like I've picked up so many things.
I was never a cook. In fact, before Paleo, I had a tiny array of foods I would eat, maybe just a dozen different things. Now, I'm a veritable foodie, always cooking every meal from scratch, looking up recipes, making my own recipes, and trying to outdo myself every meal. I can count on just one hand how many foods I don't really care for after reawakening my sense of taste.
Weightlifting is a mainstay -- nothing like grunting out beastly deadlifts in the VFFs. All my problems be damned... If I can crank out twice my body weight in a deadlift, I can conquer anything. And for you monsters who deadlift more than that... please let me keep my ego intact :D
The outdoors... where were they the past 22 years of my life? One of my favorite things now is going to a hiking trail with some friends and completing abandoning it ASAP. There's some beautiful things to see in the middle of the woods.
Reading is something I never did much of 9 months ago. All this Paleo book, blog, and PubMed reading has gotten me more interested in reading in general. Now, I'm a huge fantasy book nerd, just like the cavemen.
Music has always been a huge part of my life, but I've neglected it the past couple of years. Reading about stress prompted me to sit my ass back down with my guitar and piano and improv til my fingers bleed. Nothing decompresses me more than getting completely lost in whatever comes out of me when I play. This is probably my favorite Paleo-inspired hobby. It's like an out of body experience.
Move aside, variety. Paleo is the new spice of life.
Has anyone else found their spare-time totally reinvented by Paleo? What have you picked up? What have you given up?
