Interesting. So why do teenagers become Paleo? Was it your own initiative or do your parents happen to be Paleo? Are you rebelling against Vegetarian or Vegan parents :) ?

I had just turned 19 when I went Paleo. I've struggled with my weight my entire life and knew I needed to to make a change. My dad eats more in line with WAPF, the rest of my family is on the SAD, so I did this completely on my own and haven't looked back. (And eating Paleo at college is quite the challenge-- everyone thinks I'm insane!) – Leigh May 3 2011 at 17:34

Almost the same here Leigh. D: My family is so health conscious, but they have so many problems because they don't believe in the way I'm eating. Not only am I doing this for myself because I felt so crappy on carbs and sweets, I'm also attempting to lead by example. Also, yeah, everyone thinks I'm insane too. .__. BUT THAT'S OKAY. – Sortilege May 3 2011 at 17:46

I'm doing it for political reasons, but my mother is paleo 'cause it's healthy, which makes it easier. Same here, all my friends think I'm mental. – emthedrummer May 3 2011 at 18:48

I've always been pretty health conscious. No idea why. I just can't stand the thought of eating crap. It doesn't come from my family though. They eat the saddest SAD. – mari May 3 2011 at 21:27

I'm sixteen and three quarters....I came to Paleo after searching gluten free on the internet, as I have an unpleasant non-celiac gluten intolerance ala "can't get up in the morning after a gluten exposure". I came to Sisson's and Robb Wolfs' websites and they convinced me to go full paleo. My mother eats a vegetarian diet but supports me in buying ten pounds of grass fed beef a week, for me, myself, and I. I went paleo for health and athletic performance, not rebellion - there are more important things to rebel against, like Big Agra and Big Pharma. – maryeeclarkisouthunting Oct 21 2011 at 21:14

Yup, I'm 15. We have a few other teenagers, but not many. Last I checked I was the youngest too.

AWESOME. When I was 15, I was packing down 2500 calorie meals at McDonald's almost every day. You're putting my ass to shame :D – becker May 3 2011 at 21:02

Hey, I'm sixteen too. I started limiting my refined sugars and cut out soda and candy when I was 13 just for the sake of being healthy. I was still, unknowingly, on the SAD though. I only recently got into nutrition right before I turned sixteen. Shortly after that I discovered the paleo lifestyle and I'm never looking back. What got me into Paleo in the first place was that I just wanted to be healthy. Even on the SAD I was still very athletic, but I suffered from low energy levels and wanted to remedy it. I think it's awesome for those of us who are still young to learn about the real truth of diet and am grateful for the people who have dedicated their time to spreading the word. My parents and those around me think otherwise. They think I'm crazy and have been brainwashed, which is like the other way around. I have also noticed the small population of young Paleo kids. However a very prominent one is Armi Legge who has done vasts amounts of research and even has his own site.

If we're talking about "underage" in terms of drinking, I'm 20!

You've been able to drink for two years in my country! – emthedrummer May 3 2011 at 18:45

You know what's sad : you wait your entire life so you can get a legal beer, and then you realize you can't because you're paleo :) – Korion Jan 23 2012 at 16:37

I'm twenty also, do I count? Haha.

PS, my boy is younger than me by a month or so and is also on the diet... Does that count as two 20-year-olds then?

Underaged means you can't get the insurance on rental cars, right? If so, count me underaged.

Seconded....... – No more. May 3 2011 at 17:13

19 Here! I started Paleo almost two years ago. I just go about with saying I'm Lactose and Gluten intolerant, and it shuts most people up. Honestly, people aren't going to shove food down your throats, but I agree. Being a college student on a budget is a challenge. Whip out the crock pot out and you're in business!

I just had a midterm today in my Food Science class and one of the questions was, What should be the main component of your diet: Carbs, Protein, Fat, or Water. While the correct answer was Carbs... we all know what it should be.

Down with the SAD diet~ I hate how they're still teaching this nonsense in universities.

Both of my teens look at me like I'm crazy when I make my own meals. I always offer some - or start the core items, then split them out halfway through the cooking phase (adding cheese to teen daughter's scrambled eggs w/chicken apple sausage, for example).

But even while I've not stopped buying them their crap (ramen, mac & cheese, etc.), I'm watching as they start gravitating towards what I'm eating. The milk & cereal go untouched, while daughter wants my breakfast each morning. Teen son now requests roasted veggies with bacon (especially cauliflower, which he loves).

And I was making a quick lunch stir-fry earlier with kale, onions, peppers, splash of sake, coconut milk & leftover chuck roast - HeTeen sniffed, rolled his eyes, said 'will you ever make anything WE can eat any more?' - then stole a bite from the pan, then asked for a plate himself.

I figure the soft-pedal approach is the smart one here for now...

I didn't know there were other Paleo teenagers; I thought most sixteen-eighteen year olds took pride in eating crap food!

It seems like you're not living out your teenage years unless you eat only ramen and drink only mountain dew.

16! Just got an account to reply to this.... It's exciting to know SOME other young people care about what they eat!!

Well, not a kid, but 19 - does that count? I'm so glad I found paleo, and wish I would have started earlier. Before paleo I was eating what I thought was a healthy diet - vegetarian, mostly fruits and whole wheat - but that still made me fat, sick and depressed. Since starting paleo my health has improved in leaps and bounds!

Ya i'm 17 and started being health conscious at like age 12 or at least weight conscious. I got serious at 16 and found ancestral health 6 months ago. It's cool to be one of the youngest.

I'm 22. I've been eating organic since I was about 11, low-gluten to gluten free since I was about 14 (Ma was diagnosed celiac, then I was a couple years after that). I've been health conscious most of my life though, especially when it came to things like sodas.

Now been paleo-ish for a few months. My mate has been paleo for a while. She is also 22.

Seventeen here. Anyone else having issues with acne? Hormone related acne anyway. I generally don't have noticeable problems unless I pick at them.

17 year old. My crossfit trainer showed me a couple of books to read (Paleo Solution, Primal Blueprint) and my thirst for knowledge about this way of living has ceased to be quenched.

I get excited thinking about how healthy I'll be when I'm older since I made the transition at such a young age.

Im 19, I went Paleo shortly after I quit heroin in march after my parents found out. I been having a bunch of problems the last year, severe E.D. (I thought I injured my penis and it litteraly made me go insane) OCD, depression, plans of suicide, and anxiety which is why I fell in love with heroin. Also have had ADHD my whole life and this made it worse. After I quit heroin I realized that drugs would not make my problems go away, it just temporarily masked them and was destroying me.I started working out a lot and meditating, then I did some research on eating paleo and decided I would never touch grains, legumes, or dairy again. Iv been paleo for about a month know and my depression and anxiety are improving a lot, I may be able to get off SSRIs soon which would be nice. Im also pretty sure I had cyliacs and/or lactose intolerance, I used to get stomach pains and bad diareha which have gone away since paleo. Going paleo has completly changed my out look on life. I've also realized that part of the reason people are so unhappy is because of how disconnected we have become from nature. a few monthes ago every day consisted of searching the house for random crap, bringing that to the pawn shop to sell, going to a drug house in the ghetto, then shooting up in my car. Now every day is a day of healthy eating, a good workout, and meditation before bed. I know now that I want to do something food/health related as a job and have my own organic farm and grass fed cows so that I can help others become healthy and raise the cave-kids I will have in the future to be as healthy as possible.

wow :O glad things are looking up – sarah Apr 25 at 6:48
A lot of us had a short (or long) trip on the crazy train at your age. Hang in there! You are doing awesome if you are figuring it out at 19 and making changes. – RK Apr 25 at 12:24

I'm 16, but I turned paleo when I was 15 :) I't caught my interest emmediately. My original interest in health and food developed after struggeling with some kind of GI upset which nearly destroyed my life. I feel like I lost two years of my life to the illness and it put me in a prison. It was a lot of trying and failing. I discovered paleo and it all made sense. I've converted my parents and are spreading the word, tyring to inspire people and get them interested in looking it up. I will raise my future kids paleo and hope they will stick to it and be one of the first steps towards a healthier human race. Yep, future planned out, haha. i just hope they won't rebel and end up worse than average...

I'm Norwegian and we dont have a huge market here, which makes it both hard and expensive to get a lot of different paleo foodstuff. We don't state on our meat and eggs if they're grass-fed or not, we don't have cold cuts and bacon and stuff without preservatives and added sugar. Nut butters and nuts in general are really expensive. But our norwegian meats are mostly almost completely grass-fed anyway. They eat grass all summer and mostly hay in the winter with the addition of some fortified grain-based feed. Our animals aren't fed any growth hormones or huge amounts of antibiotics either, and we have organic meat if thats a concern. We don't get pastured eggs though... And it's not allowed to sell unpasteurized milk products here at all. There's not much variety because the market is so small. There's only two major producers of milk here which recives their milk from small, local farms all over Norway. There's not a lot of different varieties and brands to choose from. We have only one brand of cottage cheese, for example. It's all high quality but not much to choose from. We only have orange yams, no other varieties of sweet potato, and no spaghetti squash... there's so many things I would like to try! So living paleo in Norway is safe, but there's a lot of limitations. And boy is the food expensive! I have no idea what i would do without iherb.com
