Hey guys. This isn't really a request for any major hacking, just a general wondering, as I was stunned on the scale this morning!
I posted a couple of questions here to support my newly-adopted IF:ing, being the unsure-and-optimizing nutritional nerd that I am:
I had 2 full weeks in of 8/16 IF:ing, out of which last 3-4 days I had more PWO carbs than before (90-120 grams sweet potato + veggies, still paleo), after some LHT+CF combined workouts. Really felt great about everything. Week ago on a saturday I did some hill sprint HIIT-workout, it was a little rainy + chilly, don't know if it was that but I had developed a bit of sore throat + runny nose by monday evening (not in any way am I suggesting that any nutritional choice (paleo, IF or the high-ish carbs) had anything to do with this). Sunday I did my usual type of gym workout.
I was traveling for work monday-through friday, and had to drop IF for tuesday-thursday, but still ate sound paleo-style meals (had one glass (seriously one) red wine thursday night). Due to my sore-ish throat, I didn't do any heavy lifting or any other type of hard workout. I prolly should have just rested alltogether, but i did fasted low-intensity 30-45 minute morning walks on tuesday (breakfast right after) and friday (had some BCAAs and fasted for about 4-5 hours more before having a nice pile of Salmon and veggies, and returning to my regular IF routine). Hadn't lifted weights since last sunday and definately didn't eat over maintenance (more like 0-300 cals under, protein in check every day). Today I weighed myself, and I was 167 pounds, down from 174 on monday morning (couldn't scale myself on the trip). Now even I know that this sort of drop or pace isn't safe by any standards, and I wasn't THAT sick this week (had appetite and drank fluids everyday etc. attended the seminar that the trip was for).
I'm guessing the reason behind the big drop in the scale was, the fact that my morning weigh-ins last weekend I had some water retention (or maybe BMs) from eating huge PWO meals 100-120 grams of carbs as opposed to 60-70 daily carbs? I mean I guess I can see some level of leaning-out when I look in the mirror since starting IF, but its not like i got a six pack with 2 walks and 3-day pause from IF between in 5 days :) If I hadn't been sick, I would be happy to declare this all a great combination of IF, paleo and a short deload period, which it still might very well be. We'll see how it goes when I hit the gym today or tomorrow, hope I don't collapse under the empty barbell (kidding.)
I'm guessing I broke the plateau :) Love IF, had a "target weight" of 170 pounds for the summer, and was "stuck" at 176-178 for a couple of months. I really think I shouldn't weigh any less, so I absolutely need to stop talking about weight loss and start thinking body recomposition, and maybe even performance (yes!). I'm going to keep IF:ing and possibly upping my daily calorie intake a bit, and MAYBE (here comes the "reason" for this post), every now and then it might be beneficial to intermittently...not intermittently fast for a couple days and keep the body guessing, while still eating sound paleo choices.
