I check into Archevore every couple of days, because I like Kurt's writing. I have taken to trawling his archive now, because he doesn't seem to have posted on Archevore for about a month. Does anyone know more?

Heaven forbid that he might have a life apart from his blog (although I think he blogs on a similar point re orthorexia somewhere)!

This is a valid question because paleo newbies quickly learn which sites are useful but they don't always know a blogger's habits. Unless you knew about Kurt Harris taking most of 2010 off for personal reasons, you might expect his enthusiastic start to 2011 to mean daily or weekly posts. Perhaps Dr. Harris is busy, or he grew annoyed at some facet of the blogging life and needed to take a break. – patrick3000 May 11 2011 at 15:24

I think it's also important for newbies to know that he's going for quality over quantity. – Chickenosaurus Rex May 11 2011 at 16:12
Patrick, thanks for your comment, this is helpful information for me and does give me some context. Beyond that, I've been a little bit surprised at the fuss my query has caused. I actually even made a (weak) little joke at the end of the original question, ie I'm the orthorexic! Lastly, noting David Rourke's post below, I will be donating to Dr Harris's blog. – Singo May 11 2011 at 16:49
@Singo, i agree with you: in your OP you joked at the end and people still have piloried you for even asking. ignore it. – ben61820 May 11 2011 at 17:02
Thanks Ben, it has at least prompted me to make a donation to the blog though. I think the point David makes below about the time spent, even if it's a labour of love, shouldn't be ignored. – Singo May 11 2011 at 17:06

He'll post when he has something to say. In the meantime, he has a donate button on his blog. Of anyone working for "free" in the paleosphere, I think he deserves lots of contributions (yes, he's gotten one from me).

He's a busy guy. He's been quiet before for extended amounts of time.

I'm just guessing he either doesn't have much to say at the moment, or he hasn't found the time to say it.

Not exactly a duplicate. This question was asked during his extended absence last year, not during his relatively very short absence of late. – patrick3000 May 11 2011 at 16:46

Having a topic everytime the doc doesn't write for a month is kind of pointless isn't it ? But not exactly a duplicate, I agree. – Ikco May 11 2011 at 18:51
Yes, I agree it's pointless. However, it seems to be a period of transition for paleohacks as many new members arrive with questions that may have already been asked and answered. It's good to point them to the previous threads. Here I was just pointing out that the current Harris "absence" is (hopefully) different from what was more like a sabbatical last year. – patrick3000 May 12 2011 at 8:14

Seriously?

I am getting annoyed with people calling others out for lack of writing. It isn't anyone's obligation to post new material. Be thankful he takes the TIME to think, and write quality material, rather than vomit out cheap nonsense to fill blog space. His work has no doubt helped everyone on here, and countless others.

You should edit your post to thank him for his work.

Edit: Clearly I didn't get my message across properly. Apologies to the OP.

With the greatest of respect, I make the comment that I 'like' his work, in the first line of my post. If you want something stronger, I find his writing to be the most persuasive that I have read, ever. Happy? I certainly was not 'calling him out', merely asking what I thought was a perfectly reasonable question, because I like his writing. – Singo May 11 2011 at 14:28

I disagree that a perfectly reasonable question is "Hey where's all the new material" – Todd May 11 2011 at 14:41

What a bizarre answer. The OP was just asking why he's been quiet in case anybody knew or something. He didn't call anybody out, act as if it was Kurt's obligation to post, or whatever. You need to chill out and take the TIME the think about what you're responding to, because this time you clearly failed on that front. And LOLOLLO HE SHOULD EDIT HIS POST TO THANK HIM FOR HIS WORK?????? As Singo said above (with the greatest amount of respect even though you clearly don't deserve it), he said he liked his writing. Isn't that enough? – Anonymous Coward May 11 2011 at 14:46

LOL 2 more upvotes to this answer? You're all crazy! – Anonymous Coward May 11 2011 at 14:54

Nah Todd. You're ok. People often don't know how to read words on paper correctly. They read it and place their own chosen 'tone' with someone else's words. Anon Coward is surely one of them. And he is quickly becoming one of my least favorite paleohackers. Anon - you are attacking people very agressively lately and it's getting annoying. You get so upset when you feel people have been disrepectful but your comments are so much more disrespectful than what you attack. Only slightly hypocritical of you. Ease up man. – Jack Kronk May 12 2011 at 17:22

Is that the guy who said that running is bad for you?

yes and no. he didn't say running per se was bad for you, only that ultra-endurance running takes a serious toll on your body – crzydjm May 11 2011 at 15:18
He is merely going with the science on that. Although it could be (partly) due to the carbs - endurance athletes are some of the worst carbaholics. And he runs. About 2-3 miles 2-3x per week, iirc. – Dave S. May 11 2011 at 17:53

He does that, thankfully he doesn't hang on the computer everyday. Still plenty of read, or better yet - put something into practice.

Take it for what it's worth, but what I've heard is that his about-faces on Taubes/insulin and eating rice were just the tip of the iceberg. Word is he's gone radical vegan - or at least fruitarian - and is preparing an epic blog post a la Don Matesz explaining everything. Some have also postulated that the drubbing he took on CarbSane's blog - http://carbsanity.blogspot.com/2011/02/nefa-discussion-with-kurt-harris-etc.html - prompted him to cash his chips in and go home. Who really can say? The fact that he rarely allows comments already speaks to his tolerance for those who disagree with him.

That was a drubbing? – Rose Aug 8 2011 at 4:59

"Gavin" is my internet stalker. He or she sends me harassing emails under made-up email addresses, to which my replies bounce back. "Gavin" has heard no such thing, because "Gavin" just made it all up right now for his own onanistic entertainment. Just another internet harpie with nothing better to do, apparently. As far as the alleged "drubbing", by all means please do read every one of my posts on Carbsane's blog about NEFA and see what you think. See if you agree that eating VLC causes diabetes and sudden cardiac death. See if you agree that repeating "calories in calories out" which no o – Kurt G Harris MD Aug 8 2011 at 5:03

one in the universe disagrees with, is anything more than a conversation arresting tautology. Everyone should have a pest like "Gavin" stalking them to make life interesting. I mean, really, who bothers to send multiple anonymous emails to someone who hasn't written a blog post in almost 6 months? Psychos and losers. One of carbsane's several sycophants? Who knows? by the way, aren't you Dr. K? Why the name change? For more Paleo hacks: paleohacks.com/questions/37858/… – Kurt G Harris MD Aug 8 2011 at 5:14

Is Gavin really Dr K? Why did Kurt Harris allude to this in his post above? IP address match or something? Quilt - Are you stirring up trouble under a secret identity? – Jack Kronk Aug 8 2011 at 16:30
