Hi guys! So,I started eating full on primal just yesterday(no really, yesterday!). I eliminated from my diet flour and its products, sugar, vegetable oils and pretty much everything that is proccessed apart from bacon, butter, coconut milk and coconut cream. As for the last two, which one do you believe is the best for occasional consumption if weight loss is the main goal for the next 4 months or so??Is it better to buy in a carton or can?

Next in line, excersising.I am 5 foot 10 and weight 240 pounds,22 year old male. What type of exercise is best to begin with after I get keto adapted(I will wait for 3 more days until I make sure I am keto adapted,I measure ketonuria with ketodiastix as they are they only ones I could find locally)?

Lastly, which veggies,to your experience, are best for weigth loss? What do you usually accompany your meal with?? Thank you guys!

Do not forget coconut oil which has 117 of good saturated fat. Fry your eggs in the coconut oil.

Salad greens with olive oil and vinegar. Yams/sweetpotatoes are excellent. Microwave til slightly soft, slice off rounds and panfry in coconut oil or butter.

Sprinting doing tabata windsprints is excellent 2x a week. And lots of 2-3 mile walks. You do not want to do a lot of strenuous exercises as it can raise cortisol and stop your weight loss dead in its tracks. Lots of folks can/do lose weight without exercise...just the walking will do it.

See this posting regarding low carb flu so you will recognize it when it hits. I did not experience it...but many do.

Hey Dex. Do you know what the relationshuip is between walking and cortisol, especially the threshold of intensity at which 'walking' becomes a cortisol secreting causal factor? I would like to do more wlaking but have avoided doing so for fear of the endurance-training=shortened telomeres+cortisol producing equation. – PersonMan May 13 2011 at 16:10
When Dr K talks about endurance training and shortening of telomeres, he is talking about intense, intense training. Your walking will not bring about any cortisol issues 3 miles and hour is just fine. – Dexter May 13 2011 at 18:25
Hey thanx for your answer!Do you happen to know any tips to make my coconut oil workable? It is solid and since it comes in a bottle,I cannot use it! – Bambis May 16 2011 at 12:30

Hi Bambis, when I cycle on to full blown fat loss paleo I up my daily fat intake by introducing a cocofat(200ml Jersey Double cream, 1 raw egg, table spoon almond butter, 50g of Kerrygold vanilla to flavour) shake first thing AM and last thing PM. As well as a cold bath soak for 10mins before bed, I've had great results with this, but the cold baths wear thin after a few weeks. Can't help with the Veggies, I just eat seasonal, lots of colours. Green Tea is reputed to aid fat loss, but I've not experimented yet. My meals are accompanied with water. Too many variables with other beverages. Oh yeh exercise...I CrossFit, powerlift and mountain bike. For a beginner any high intensity interval training systems will be a good start. I would recommend getting to a Crossfit gym though just for the added benefits of coaching and a motivational atmosphere.

Good luck!

Darren.

My BF and I have had great weight loss results eating zero-carb/meat-only (be sure to eat the organs and make bone broth though!). We've since added in other things, and we've both found that starchy vegetables stall fat loss and increase hunger (but are necessary for recovery after a hard day of skiing). So for fat loss, stick with leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, onions, peppers, cucumber, celery...

As for exercise, take it easy at first and focus on increasing your daily activity level (walk more, play, do chores by hand, have sex, etc.). Once you feel ready for more I would add in some strength training. Body by Science type workouts are great for beginners. Next steps: increase weights/reduce reps and add sprints.

Coconut milk and coconut cream are pretty equal.

One final thought on fat loss. No matter what anyone says, calories do matter (you can't break the laws of thermodynamics). BUT the type of food you eat plays a major role in what your body does with it. Metabolism, mood, hunger/satiety, and energy levels are all affected by what you eat. For most people eating a paleo diet is sufficient to regulate their hunger and achieve an ideal weight. Others need to play with macro nutrient ratios and calorie intake.

Hope that helps, let me know if you want more info :-)
