I've noticed that since I've cut out gluten and other grains (on rare occasion I will still eat rice) pre menstrual breast tenderness/pain (ie. swollen lymph nodes on the sides of my breasts) has gone way down. That's very nice because it had reached an almost worrisome level before i kicked the grains.

It seems like your lymphatic system is one of the first lines of defense against naughty stuff that's made its way into your system and a major initiator in it being carried out of your body. How does paleo help out the lymphatic system and have you noticed any changes in yours since going paleo?

The leaky gut issues allow a lot of ingested immunogenic molecules into your blood and lymph, and some of those molecules can escape the blood in capillaries, enter the tissue space, and end up draining back into your lymph. Lymph eventually flows into lymph nodes where it is presented to all kinds of immune cells. If you have an antibody against a given molecule, it's very likely to get detected at some point and cause a reaction in the lymph nodes. That reaction will swell up the node and send inflammatory signals all over the body as well.

Paleo eliminates or at least significantly reduces a lot of ridiculously common food antigens like gluten and caseomorphins (for some) and non-antigenic but still inflammatory things like excessive omega-6 and too many lectins. Your lymph nodes thank you, for you have stopped bullshitting them with food and let them go back to work on searching out the real dirty bits inhabiting your body.

I've noticed that my ears tend to feel more clogged with notable amounts of grain or sugary dairy products. I have always had a seeming lot of ear wax but there have been a couple of times where my ears became very very clogged and it is a feeling i can easily now feel manipulated by certain factors, food being the seeming largest. i wonder if swelling of the lymph nodes below the ears is part of what's happening. I dunno. don't care either, cause I know how to deal with it that's all I and I need. meat eggs and fish forever

Are you referring to your innner ear/eustachian tubes? I have very narrow eustachian tubes and since I was a kid I've had problems with my inner ears. since going paleo it has lessened substantially. – Futureboy May 18 2011 at 9:31
i think so, i mean it feels like it's pretty deep in there...but yeah things have been infinitely better since going paleo... – greta May 19 2011 at 13:52

I have noticed that since I started paleo that the sebacious cysts I used to get on my back have completely disappeared. Really nice fringe benefit to go with all the others !

I had a benign cyst in my left breast for over year that is now gone after switching to paleo and an exercise program called T-Tapp. I don't know which of the two is more beneficial but as Greta said I don't care as both have contributed to my well-being and that's all I care about.

thats great! you must be feeling some relief about that one. i have a non calcified cyst on my pineal gland (which i believe is somewhat common) but i have no idea how it's doing, as i can't very well look inside my brain :) – tartare May 18 2011 at 13:54
i looked into T-Tapp a few years ago, this is the first time i heard someone mention it since then. i'm going to check it out again now that you reminded me. it was great for my back pain :) – dorchid11 May 18 2011 at 13:56
