Check out Chris Masterjohn's latest article.
Nevertheless, I still hold some small place in the back of my brain that has been soaked for so long in the mainstream media's fear-mongering that probably will never go away.
Yes, to some tiny extent, I'm still a bit wary of bacon and eggs.
What?! You all don't read the Bible every day? C'mon folks.
"thou shalt not fear bacon and eggs".
Eggs are a regular staple. We go through about 3 dozen per week for the two of us.
For bacon, 0g of sugar (which probably really means between 0g and 1g somehwere) does not really concern me much. until someone can confirm that the small amount of sugar in bacon that does not even qualify for 1g is somehow a higher worry than simply eating less than 1g in some other food, I will continue to eat uncured bacon with no nitrates and carry on.
And while we are talking about religion and everything, I just want to point out that I'm reasonably certain that God eats bacon in Heaven.
Thanks for the article link.
I think it's good to be wary of bacon to the extent that it, like all other conventional meats, is generally coming from pigs who have been fed unhealthy diets. Same thing for eggs. But by their nature, I don't think there's anything inherently bad about bacon and eggs.
And in the absence of better stuff, I still eat conventionally-raised bacon (fresh from the butcher) and eggs without too much worry. I wish pastured piggies were available where I live, but that's not going to stop me chowing on some bacon. Can I get an AMEN?
Yes, I do! Because I think the fundamental science, which provides, that eight eggs and tons of bacon for breakfast are healty, is still to weak.
Some people here seem to think, that those studies that detected the FAT LIE, are a legitimate reason to binge on fat excessively.
BUT, who knows what science will bring in the next 10 years? Perhaps completely new biochemical pathway will be discovered, or underlying processes, that show that SatFat/Cholesterol is not that good as formerly (now paleo) thought.
So, I still have my concerns about to much eggs and bacon. For me there seems to be at the moment enough scientific evidence, that SatFat and Cholesterol may be not that bad, possibly very healty. So I eat it in moderation.
You never know what the next "truth" will be, so dont excess, do the moderate path of the middle! So there is not too much to regret in some years;-) Perhaps only 4 eggs a week, half of that bacon, some more veggies etc.
I don't see anything at all wrong with eggs. They are wonderful, delicious pods of nutrients.
Bacon is also wonderful, but more like a candy to me as there is no satiating switch like I have with eggs. I eat a certain amount of eggs and, even though they're delicious, I'm done. I eat a certain amount of bacon...and I can eat more and more of it. There is no off switch.
Fear of eggs: none
Fear of bacon: some
I haven't been able to get my hands on any pastured bacon, but I eat about a pack a week of something at least nitrate free/low sodium, such as Nature's Promise brand from Giant. I myself eat a little over a dozen eggs a week. My cholesterol and trigs are great; I've oversome my fear of bacon and eggs, but some friends and family still seem a little scared for me ;)
