The first time I did the hero WOD called the seven. It was terrible

I did that last night for the first time...Hardest WOD to date!!! – Julie May 19 2011 at 12:25

The WORST WOD (and I personally think it is worse than Murph or Eva) is a CF Football WOD called "Kalsu." I haven't finished this WOD yet, because it is such a mental grinder, perhaps more so than being a physical grinder. So on the minute, every minute, you perform 5 burpees. After you do the 5 burpees, you then do as many thrusters as you can until the top of the minute comes again (Rx for men is 135, for women it's probably 95, I can't remember). You do that until you've reached 100 thrusters.

It's horrible and I find absolutely nothing enjoyable in it. Because I haven't finished it yet, I probably just sit down after reaching the scaled number of 50 thrusters and mutter and curse.

Yeah I quit after 10 minutes. I tried the tempo and breaks but it didn't seem to help. Eventually I couldn't do 5 burpees in a minute so I DNF'd. – Caveman formally known as Dan May 19 2011 at 5:09
People who can finish Kalsu are monsters. It is certainly a workout for strongment/women. I don't know that it was the hardest workout I've done, but my crew did: run 1 mile, 10 rounds of 10 db squat cleans (45# dbs) and 10 pullups, run 1 mile. It took me about 26 minutes. I remember we then went to a local greasy spoon where I had a half dozen scrambled eggs, hash browns, 10 oz chopped sirloin washed down with 4 or 5 cups of coffee and was hungry an hour later. – Tom R. Not that "Fight Gone Bad" is the worst workout I've ever done but I did develop a dish around it. When we do FGB at our fire staion I always make "FGB Skillet". Sweet potatoes with onion, red bell pepper and ground elk topped off with basted eggs.

I would say FGB is one of the worst I have done, but I have not figured out how to gear down for score while doing it. 100% effort out the gate and the rotation of exercises keeps the mind pushing the body hard. – Spelhaug52 May 19 2011 at 13:19
ground elk:) That sounds awesome. – ben61820 May 19 2011 at 13:52

heavy backsquatting.

afterwards I ate beef and sweet potatoes.

I think i'm going to start a new squat routine called breathing squats though and thats supposed to make you see jesus so I'll report back.

Are you looking to add tons of body mass? That's the only thing I ever hear people using breathing squats for. – a hut full of spears May 18 2011 at 22:11
Try doing the Smolov routine if you really want a back squat challenge and specialization program. Only the strong survive that. – Thomas Seay May 18 2011 at 23:01
I like reading Brooks Kubik. He writes a lot about what made the old time lifters really strong. I do much of what he talks about already with SS and 531 but breathing squats has always, since I first read about them, intrigued me. I'm not saying I'm going to dominate and do them forever but I think I have to try it. And yes I too have read that it's pretty good for kicking that serious growth stimulus. We'll see. Love that you guys are familiar though. I've often wished there were a paleo lifting forum. I know there's a few forums on T nation etc that mention paleo but one more like this site – ben61820 May 19 2011 at 0:57
Hey Ben61820 we have to choose one of the accounts to subsume the other one. I assume you want this one, Ben61820 to be the master account, but I just want to be sure because the "procedure" is irreversible. – Paul May 19 2011 at 2:22
yes, the Ben61820 account is much more useful to me. I'd like to only have that one going forward. Thanks. I wonder if this change will lengthen my telomeres. – ben61820 May 19 2011 at 13:53

my twice a week workout is pretty hard, but so are my runs. For the workout it's 10x10 pull ups/chin ups in various positions, 65lbs weighted, 6x20 inclined push ups, 65lbs weighted, 4x20 ring-dips, 40-50lbs weighted, 20x5 walking lunges, 65lbs weighted, 5x20 inclined situps and 5x60 bicycle crunches holding 20lbs. It comes out to around 785ish reps because I do some higher weight dips at lower reps. I try to only rest 1min in between, and I usually do a set of pulls/push/lunge, repeat. It'll get even harder as I just got a 100lb weight vest, so I can finally up the weight.

When I run I usually incorporate hill sprints, which I try my best to destroy myself with. I never have an issue with energy, I just try to make sure I eat afterwards. I do incorporate sweet potato into my evening meals, though usually I make mashed sweet potato with two potatoes and a head of cauliflower with some coconut or olive oil.

96 miles on a bike with only a few short rest stops. Couldn't quite make 100. Took 3 days to recover. Earned a lot more respect for the bike racers who do that every day, or more, for weeks.

How much did you shorten your telomeres? – Dexter May 19 2011 at 2:03

Hardest workout I did recently was 5 rounds for time of 15 95# thrusters and 15 bar-facing burpees (burpee then jump over the bar)

I literally wanted to quit after round 1

deadlifts with a 50lbs bar, russian twists with a 20lbs medicine ball and then swimming lanes for 15 mins. I used to do this every other day (combined with various other exercises) before i got pregnant.

I usually ate tuna fish w/ avocado and some kind of fruit, usually blueberries. sometimes i would eat cottage cheese or greek yogurt depending on how i felt. Sometimes cottage cheese and yogurt makes me feel a ton better after a work out.

I just started CF and my first WOD ever was Murph. I just did the 1/2 version and I coughed up bloody mucous for three days. But I came back for more, and then started paying them for the pain so it's good stuff!

5 rounds.

Max Reps in 30 second of work, 15 seconds of rest

Burbees Weighted Pull ups 135 Pound Thrusters

I believe there was something else in there, the workout out itself was not that hard. However this was after my B-day and one of the few times I drank, I stopped drinking at 4am, and I worked out at 6am. All because in my drunken state I told someone I would workout with them in the morning. It was painful.

When I was done I was pretty sober.
