The post about gagging on butter got me to thinking. Now dairy is reputed to make men taste bad. Does that apply to butter as well? And given that we don't usually eat pineapple (high glycemic) which is supposed to make men taste good, what Paleo foods can a Paleo man eat in order to taste good?

Of course, I know that the Paleo ladies on here don't have any DIRECT experience with this, but maybe they can report what their girlfriends or GBFFs have to say on the matter.

My N=1 experience is that the only time I was complimented in this area was when I was very low carb, no sugar, yet I was told it was "sweet." (So naturally she tried to get me to eat more sugar to make it sweeter, even though that clearly wasn't the reason.) – Aaron B. May 19 2011 at 18:12

There is a reason I am always promoting use of raw, organic, honey. It makes EVERYTHING taste good.

I'll be the ho-bag who jumps on this one. Ahem.

A clean diet tends to lead to, shall we say, better results. Processed foods are the big thing. I wouldn't worry about it, as long as you're eating good paleo.

And the one paleo gentleman with whom I've shared the pleasure of that particular experience had a taste not dissimilar to a really pleasant chicken broth. Weird, but nice. – gone2croatan May 19 2011 at 16:55

Yeah, but I want to go down thick, creamy and amazing....not runny, like chicken broth. Any advice? – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 17:06

Look, I want to be studly. I don't want women calling me Colonel Sanders. – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 17:19

What flavor would you consider "studly," because it ain't never gonna taste like ice cream, sugar. – gone2croatan May 19 2011 at 18:18

I am not sure what studly would taste like, but somehow I don't associate "Pepperidge Farm" with it. – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 18:40

Oh boys...we don't care what you eat. We just want you to know how to. Do that and we will think you taste great no matter what you ate for dinner. I promise.

Okay CaveRat, I have some experience with this. I went on a trip to Hawaii one time and the girl starts putting tropical fruit up her Va-Jay-Jay. She later got some sort of yeast infect. Not pretty. Of course, that is externally applied. Believe me, women need to be concerned with this also. Let's just say that The South ain't always sweet. And sometimes I've had to come up with some lame excuse in order to retreat. – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 18:44

Let's settle this debate once and for all. I call for a Paleo Meat and Greet for next month. Fill in your name, assign a food, eat it for one month. We will of course need both Meaters and Greeters. BYOG (bring your own Grok) or one will be provided. We will of course be offering a return engagement for the ladies for the following month, switching roles of course. Paleo has now moved into the Paleo Porn realm...the first and last acceptance.

This is going to sound rather crude, but it looks like I'm in fairly good company in this thread, so here goes:

I've always been a -- ahem -- swallower, and enjoyed the taste very much. Since going paleo (my boyfriend is NOT paleo) the taste of him has either changed, or my taste buds have changed drastically. The last few times we've had oral sex, I've almost puked at the taste.

I realize this doesn't answer the question directly, I've never actually tasted a paleo man. But if it's any help at all, the taste of a non-paleo man--to a paleo woman's now refined sense of taste--is almost a deal breaker.

+1 for your daring to be this honest - but then maybe your boyfriend doesn't read here? – barefeet Jul 13 2011 at 20:26

Oh, hell. I too am in the "swallowing" category and definitely with you @lunabelle. Fortunately my latest experiences have been with someone who is also Paleo and well, you're right stating we're in fairly good company, so I'll just be bold and say - yum - . It could be him naturally or it could be because of his lifestyle but my taste buds, literally since the beginning of my transition to Paleo, seem to go into overdrive when um.. things go into my mouth. Food or otherwise :) – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Jul 13 2011 at 20:44
Well, lunabelle, I was up at Point Reyes a week ago and thought about stopping by Petaluma to see you :) Of course, don't have your address, so....:( – Thomas Seay Jul 13 2011 at 23:05

when i was doing two mangoes a day, i got rave reviews.

Looks like I am going to be re-introducing some fructose into my diet. I wonder how mangoes compare with pineapple. Would like more details on the reviews. – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 17:38

my experience is that as long as you don't smoke, drink alcohol and/or diet pop, eat chemically cured meats or asperagus you taste yummy.

if you are planning a head try lots of water, mild tasting green leafies and seafood....the best i ever had.

I believe that blueberries are one of the things always mentioned for that. Those are paleo enough for me.

Girl & her boyfriend go to the pub. When it's the girl's turn to buy a round, she tells him that she's heard of a wonderful new drink he simply must try. She returns with the usual half of lager for herself. For him, she has two glasses. One contains a measure of Bailey's, the other lime juice.

Instructions: "OK, what you gotta do is, you gotta swig the Bailey's, hold it in your mouth, and then drink the lime juice." He looks a bit dubious, but she's very enthusiastic so he decides to give it a go.

First the Bailey's; lovely smooth, creamy, warm feeling in the mouth. Then he takes the lime juice.

T + 0.1 secs: The cream in the Bailey's curdles.

T + 0.3 secs: Boyfriend's face turns the color of fresh lime juice.

T + 0.6 secs: Boyfriend calms his stomach & swallows the gunge.

T + 1.5 secs: She whispers in his ear.... It's called Blowjob revenge"

I must chime in as I had been thinking about this question just this week.

I have been married to my husband for almost 7 years and we at like crap. Lots of processes foods, a ton of baked goods and a ton of dairy.

During that time I was reluctant to perform certain acts because the taste of it would make me gag. And lets me honest that is not the most loving gesture.

I hadn't really thought about it until the other day we were spending some time together and I gave in and was like "Oh..Okay, if you really want to" I was dreading it and I was totally surprised.

We have been Paleo for 5 months now and although my husband still has trouble cheating with Diet pop and some sugar, he does eat some butter occasionally. There has been a noticeable difference, like no taste.

I have been open to it far more often and it is just another one of the Dozens of reason why Paleo is the way to go.

And I don't think this is a crude topic, especially among women, If someone would have told me it might happen I would have tried sooner.

Jillian, so are you saying that it just has no taste at all? Do you plan to incorporating this more into your play now that you've made this discovery? Any comments from your husband on your tasted (provided a sampling was taken)? – Thomas Seay Aug 3 2011 at 16:45

In my recent experience:

Positive correlations have been fruit, chocolate, honey, and beets. I am also partial to lots of garlic, but I have been made aware over the years that is a pretty contentious position. (I've noticed that taste generally, um, comes through more loud and clear in lady juices, anyway.)

Negative have been antibiotics (the worst!--I am nauseous just thinking about it) and lengthy VLC bouts.

I have never considered the effect of butter on such matters, although it reminded me of the Japanese insult "Bata-kusai" or "butter stinker". I wonder if there is an equivalent term for a butter taster?

In general fresh, and well hydrated is better. Smell is also a key, stuff that makes you smell off to yourself will probably also make you taste off.

There is a slight goat lke note I personally think might. Be due to higher testosterone, which I like, but which can be contraversial.

"slight goat lke note" what is that? – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 22:56
Like the flavor that is the difference between goats milk cheese and cows milk cheese – Vrimj May 19 2011 at 23:11
Hydration is really key. – sherpamelissa May 20 2011 at 1:38

My girlfriend's favorite food is chicken nuggets, so like... I guess I should eat more chicken soup. Here's to hoping...

Maybe you should talk to gone2Croatan's boy toy. Sounds like he's got the chicken taste down. – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 17:10
You would be better off going for something that tastes like her favorite drink. – sherpamelissa May 19 2011 at 17:12
If she likes raw milk, it's a no-brainer. – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 17:21
Her favorite drink is that caramel macchiato concoction thing from Starbucks. If I tasted like that... god I'm scared to even imagine what I might be capable of doing to myself... – becker May 19 2011 at 17:55

LOL, a few years ago I was approached by some women who worked next door to our station (where I used to work...not there any more) with a similar question...and they were taking bets on just that question because of all the meat I eat. At the time it was 2lbs of chicken and 1lb of beef a day...

I didn't let them find out.

As far as butter...sorry, we don't eat it often enough in my house for me to bother asking my wife.

Holy shit 2lbs of chicken and 1lb of beef a day? Why? – Anonymous Coward May 19 2011 at 20:06

Wait a minute...a group of women approached you and wanted to do a "taste test" and you refused. What am I missing here? – Thomas Seay May 19 2011 at 20:12

I think way back in my 20's a gal offered something like that and I refused because - get this - It felt too superficial. I'm still kicking myself. As Woody Allen says: "Sex without love is a meaningless experience. But as meaningless experiences go it's one of the best" – CaveRat May 19 2011 at 20:23
Why 2lbs of chicken and 1lb of beef? Because that's all I can hold. And It takes a few thousand calories each day to support my physical activities. I'm still little because I undereat. And at the time of the taste test offer in question. 210lbs at less than 7% body fat... that takes a great deal of food. – Andy Welch Jun 7 2011 at 2:13
RE: The taste test offer... yeah, just because some women are sleazy without morals...doesn't mean that I am. I'm not a Christain so I'm not "forgiven"...I don't have a pastor to go to for absolution of my sins... I actually have to answer to myself for, and be responsible for my actions... So I never violate my moral values nor deviate from the standards I set for myself. Here lately, I'm told it's a little on the strong side...but not anything bad. – Andy Welch Jun 7 2011 at 2:17

i think that the real question is: "Is 'that' liquid paleo?" here's to hoping the answer is YES.

I personally think it varies person to person. an ex boyfriend that was not paleo was pleasant but my hubby who is paleo isn't pleasant by any means. but then again, hubby drinks a TON of mountain dew AND he smokes so there are two factors to think about.

A Mountain Dew drinking Paleo? And I thought I was the contrarian around here :) – Thomas Seay May 20 2011 at 13:55
sometimes addiction can override healthy eating habits... :p I personally hate the stuff but i have heard that Mtn Dew has addictive qualities to it. – lalabomba May 23 2011 at 17:33

I always thought that was a myth of sorts. I've never been able to prove anything one way or the other. Vegetarians vs meat eaters, pineapple etc. Sometimes there is a taste that is distinctly metallic, which I attribute to a diet and lifestyle with lots of chemicals in it. I also think some multi-vitamins may contribute to an overall funky taste.

btw I really like your tags: la leche indeed!

Hey San Francisco sister, I had other tags in mind but thought they might be too obscure. Just added zinc supplementation back into my routine, wonder if that's going to produce funky results. – Thomas Seay May 20 2011 at 14:07
Hmmm I don't know what to tell you 'cept no gal will tell you anything about yourself. So...don't worry yourself. Take yer vitamins:) – wood May 21 2011 at 5:57

Works for women too! I got back with an ex-boyfriend who knew me before and after and he said I tasted better. I was floored! I was eating pretty decently before the change, no pop, occasional processed food etc. I had already stopped eating veg oils and always hated margarine. So just imaging the change when someone's starting point is SAD.

Best part of the story is although we're no longer together, he's finally gone fully paleo and is feeling great. I have to ask his current gf to tell me how he tastes :)

Clean paleo diet and exercise... and somehow I know the answer must include

bone broth

and

a bit o' honey

I do know that someone once lauded drinking aloe vera gel for the improvement, but I don't know what else was going on in their diet.

How come this wasnt even deleted but my hack my boner question was and i was then suspended for 3 days when it was a serious question? Anyways raw organic honey is paleo(although not ideal food) and i hear good stuff about that and taste.

So can I assume there are some additional nuts to add to the Paleo approved list?
