Hi all, just wondering if grain-fed raw meat bought in the corner box-grocery store(in Canada specifically) would be safe to consume raw? Why or why not? I am thinking beef and possibly hamburger but have had serious doubts given the contradictory information circulating on the net. Any ideas?

I wouldn't trust raw ground meat due to cross contamination (each one of those little meat "granules" must have passed through a grinder, i.e. potential for cross contamination. Raw meat you've cut yourself, from your own santized utensils on the ohter hand... I would consider that much safer. |

Grass fed meat that has been frozen for two weeks is alleged to be free from harmful bacteria. I would avoid eating factory farmed animals raw or cooked though, for the same reasons that motivated me to be vegan for many health damaging years, and also due to the inferior nutritional value. Definitely seek out high quality meat and offal that is safe to consume raw, nothing beats it! |

Definitely listen to Joshua. Bacteria infests raw meat where the meat has been exposed to air. So, the surface of the meat is what is affected. I wouldn't go totally raw personally. The act of cooking a steak gets the surface hot enough to kill the bacteria and make it safe for consuming. With ground beef every little piece has been exposed to the air and needs to be cooked. I guess if' you've cut it yourself and consume it right away, then the danger is minimal. |

Best thing. you visit the meat factory and learn about meat butchering and meat industry. We can give advices. By seeing how the meat is produced you will defintly get it why you need good quality. |
