I live in Santa Monica. Near Real Food Daily (Vegan restaurant with a couple locations in Los Angeles) and I'd like to get some recommendations on where to eat Paleo-ish.
There is a Pho place on Santa Monica where I can do beef tendon and broth, and my stand-by Mexican places (all meat burritos of beef tongue & carne asada) - but how about some other recommendations?
[Forgot to add the In-N-Out / Chipotle stand-bys. I want to know if anyone has any amazing ethnic restaurannts in the area where I can get organ meat or something Paleo, and delicious. Also, much love to those who are in L.A. and Paleo. This town is way too vegan for its own good.]
I know the area well.
Go to Chipotle at the end of the promenade and get salad with extra meat and guacamole.
Le Pain Quotidien is down the street from RFD -- whenever I have a meeting there, I get one of their salads with extra meat.
If you're willing to drive a bit down to Culver City, Dogtown Crossfit said they talked to a mexican joint called El Rio Bravo (i think) and they now have 'paleo' items on their menus. It's on Washington Blvd at on the North side of the T intersection of Washington and Adams.
It's been a long time since I lived out there and I was one of those east of La Brea dirtbags, but I remember a really good meal at the Gyu-Kaku on Pico. There's also a pretty good Nepalese place with yak curry on Venice down the street from the Museum of Jurassic Technology.
Both of these were long before I went paleo, but if you want to shake things up, they're options.
Missing that gorgeous SoCal sunshine right now. Good luck with the vegans.
I live in the area too and enjoy going to Greens Up on Montana Ave. It's a make your own salad place with all very fresh, organic ingredients. They have various proteins and delicious homemade dressings (which are pretty much crap free). One extra benefit is that they seem to do a pretty good job of keeping the bread products isolated (as a way to avoid contamination). Good stuff.
A couple of other options in West LA are: The Counter (burger joint) - they offer your burger in a salad bowl, and have awesome guacamole to top it with - just make sure you pick paleo friendly toppings; Good Stuff, located in West LA, El Segundo and Hermosa Beach (they are very accommodating and will sub out several different choices that are paleo friendly); The steakhouse Zanes in the South Bay (not quite West LA, but their beef cuts are amazing and they have a nice selection of sides that are paleo).
Look around to local CrossFit blogs. Most will have posts about restaurants in the area. Paleo can be found in a lot of places. It's all about bring vocal and not afraid to ask for omissions in your meal or what they use to prepare a meal.
