Today the Sunrise was particularly inspiring. Made me realize rather than continue going thru life passively or submissively, little by little I have grown to appropriate my freedom, my authenticity, and my autonomy to begin to steer my ship on the course it was meant to be on all along. Mindfulness is a wonderful find.........what say you hackers?

What you said about the ship finally being on the right course resonated with me. I wasted my time, in my opinion, on a biology degree that I didn't want anymore after two years. I lived with a bunch of music students, and I was jealous of everything they did every day. Since graduating college, all I've done is write music, and I have dental school looming ahead in a few weeks to quash that time I spend in front of my MIDI keyboard. It's a little depressing, but as long as I can achieve my goal of being a dentist while maintaining my "relationship" with my musical hobby, I'll be happy no matter the circumstances. That really all I want in life at the moment, and I don't suspect it will change much. This confidence gives me resolution and placidity. If you do Paleo right, it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle that follows from a sound philosophy, and it opened my eyes to the wonderful world of simplicity. Occam's razor, then, should not only be applied to philosophy but also to life. Cut out the extraneous crap and focus wholeheartedly on what defines you and not how you hope others to see you, and the steering wheel will be firmly in your hands for the rest of your life. It's just amazing how much control I feel like I have over my emotions now that I've embraced a sort of material and societal minimalism that allows me to immerse myself in only that which exhilarates me. |

What a great way to wake up. We're enjoying an especially gorgeous sunrise here too and I just made a trek around the outside of the house to look at all the flowers that are in full bloom - it really made my day. Thank you, The Quilt, for posing such a thoughtful and fun question. "A work in progress" is how I describe myself and most of the time that works in my favor! ; ) Learning from everyone on this board has really made me get back in touch with myself, my family and with nature. Researching sources for grass-fed beef, starting to eat things like bone marrow and even wanting to dust off my fishing poles have really gotten me back in touch with the earth. But it's the looking inward that I've noticed the most. Since "going paleo" a few months ago all those hobbies I once had just an interest in have started to become reality. It has felt amazing. There is no greater feeling than to know your mind has clarity, you find pleasure in life, you live with gratitude and are surrounded by LOVE. Knowing that some days are better than others helps keep this perspective but what really makes it hit home is knowing that any of these things can escape us at any time. There is no time like NOW to live your best life. Happy Memorial Day everyone. |

Mindfulness is not a "becoming" or a teleology; it is a process and a project. That said, quiet consideration and the Heinleinian (rather than the Sissonian) "grok" are some of my best tools for living my best life. Be attentive to the reality of things, quietly and holistically, and you can avoid self-delusion. Mindfulness clarifies and reminds us that we are both tiny beings and the whole Universe. So, in a word, yes. |
