Found this on the MSN mainpage, doesn't get more mainstream! The typical "health" article, but extolling the benefits of beef, dark meat chicken (with skin!), eggs, cheese, butter and coconut!

Is this it? Have we made it? Are we at the tipping point?

Or, have we jumped the shark? Is it time to go back to veganism, just to keep one step ahead???

Note to self: dry sense of humour does not translate well over internet. I don't eat paleo as an attempt to keep one step ahead, but was facetiously trying to point out the seemingly ridiculous cycle of "what's good for you is now bad", repeat, advice. – Ruby May 30 2011 at 21:04
haa! i love your disclaimer. i totally got that you were kidding but some people dont have as nuanced a sense of internet sarcasm as me. ;) – being May 31 2011 at 0:16
Let's all become breatharians. That's about 10 steps ahead. – garymar Nov 29 2011 at 7:45
The dry humour was easily understood. It is amusing how the whole subject evolves from low carb to carbs are ok, calories don't matter, optimisation, rice is fine, eat less rewarding food to make you eat less calories (so they matter again?). Maybe it really is time to go back to veganism. – henry Nov 29 2011 at 12:45

In any budding trend (idea, product, behavior, etc.) there are always "innovators" (Voegtlin, Eaton, DeVany, Cordain) and "early adopters" (Wolf, Sission, many paleo/primal bloggers, many of you).

What we are now seeing is the potential to begin shifting the "early majority" who require a certain critical mass of "early adopters" to give them permission to try this new (old) way of eating.

The habits of powerfully impactful individuals (mavens, connectors, and salesmen to borrow some of M. Gladwell's language from "The Tipping Point") are going to determine whether or not Paleo/Primal "tips" and goes into the mainstream (early and late majorities).

I think of paleo as the only non-fad diet in existence. If the mainstream pays attention for awhile, that's fine. They'll find something other foolish way of eating to recommend soon enough.

You shouldn't be eating Paleo to be one step ahead. You should be doing it because it's the healthiest known way to live.

Darn it. I like to eat only the trendiest of diets. – Ruby May 30 2011 at 20:28

@miked, thats a pretty nasty reply. not an answer either. – ben61820 May 30 2011 at 20:33
What does healthy mean, if not one step ahead in awesomeness? – Ruby May 30 2011 at 21:08

Just because something becomes "mainstream" doesn't mean it's bad…it means people are catching on to what's good about it. Most paleo people I know never shut up about it, so it was only a matter of time!

The Raw diet (vegan) has been around for a really long time and there has been press about it, but the masses have never taken to it because it's very challenging, with paleo it's completely do-able in a normal world.

good right up to the point where he freaks about his cholesterol and eggs. :) – gydle Nov 29 2011 at 11:30
What bothers me the most is the majority of these TV news stories on Paleo usually ends up being the low-saturated fat faileo diet. Of course you'll lose weight eating natural food, but when these articles get posted I almost always end up reading the words "lean meat" and an overemphasis on nuts and seeds. Oh well, anything's better than nothing I suppose... :) I can't believe he switched from eggs to egg whites facepalm – Alex Nov 29 2011 at 17:23
