lately i've been noticing a contingent of paleo that recommends eating at least half of daily protein as seafood, either fish or shellfish.
also sisson recently did those articles on wild & farmed seafood.
i haven't eaten seafood in a long time, but lately i am wanting some shellfish. however i do not want to get a reaction, like i have in the past from questionable origin shrimp.

anyway i'm wondering what people think in regards to seafood consumption, heavy metals, farmed vs wild, and shellfish vs fish.

When it comes to finfish - Wild, wild wild!!!! For so many reasons - both for your health and for the environment.

When it comes to sedentary shellfish (bivalves) farmed is ok. I would stay away from farmed shrimp/prawns (they can be nasty on the environment where they are cultured - as well goodness only knows what they are fed.

Eat seafood if you are craving it for sure! Watch the higher order fish (tuna etc) for mercury (limit yourself to 3-5 servings a week). If you've had a reaction in the past, integrate slowly back into your diet and carefully monitor your reaction to the fish.
