My guilty pleasure is a hot beverage made from a burnt bean--not paleo. I tried green tea as a replacement, but I just don't like it. I'm wondering if there any neolithic foods you guys haven't been able (or willing) to give up, or am I the only one?

I've heard Messrs Ben and Jerry were established circa 1 million BC, so Grok may have had a spoon of ice cream from time to time. Good enough for him, good enough for me! |

I still drink coffee and red wine. Usually 2 cups coffee a day and a glass or two of wine. I switched from putting tons of sugar in my coffee to just a little bit of local honey. I eat some green beans and peas, but I grew them myself. I follow the rule of "Can I eat this raw?" I know I'm gonna catch some flak for this but once or twice in the summer I will have corn on the cob. Local grown, picked that day. Traditional family summer dinner on the porch of steak(grass fed of course), potato(err, yam), and corn on the cob. And as I don't eat processed corn at all, I'm not worried. |

I could give up coffee but haven't. The two things that I refuse to give up are:
I tried like hell to lose the diet coke, but just could NOT get used to sipping my bourbon straight, or with water/club soda. I have to have that 'shot' of diet coke in there - then I can fill it the rest of the way up w/ club soda. Weird. |

There's nothing I enjoy that I won't give up forever. I just don't eat it often. I figure if I'm paleo 95% of the time I'm good to go. I used to be way too restrictive, bordering on disordered eating, so I allow myself to indulge on occasion. I have a mother who pretty much lives off of sweets and snacks (sadly. she refuses to change.), and she loves to bake, so every once in a while I'll have a cookie (luckily she cooks gluten free sweets). and if a cute girl wants to go get ice cream with me, there's no way I'm turning that down ;) |

Coffee. Other than that, I'm pretty die-hard with the Modified Paleo routine. |

I still occasionally have Raw Milk Cheeses and alcohol - usually in the form of wine or bourbon and very occasionally beer. The thing is, I treat these as cheats and refuse to cheat more than two meals a week. Usually I try to cap it at one. This way there is some semblance of control to the fact that I am not 100% Paleo. |

Coffee and beer are the main two that come to mind, although I am trying to wean myself off both. |

I'm Primal, not strict Paleo, but I still indulge in a few non-Primal foods once in a while; pizza and ice cream are the biggies. I can't fathom a life without them, albeit rarely. |

As others have said, if I am 90%-95% eating right, I can afford the occasional sampling of all the awesome food that exists in our world that does not fit the paleo mold. |

I'm also a coffee drinker, but I'll have to add green beans to my sin list since they are so good fresh from the garden. |

I gave up coffee, that was tough - I was easily drinking 4+ cups a day. I will not give up wine, scotch, vodka, or rum. |

I have adapted substitutes for most neo agents (We make our own salsa, e.g.) But coffee, tequila, peperoni and ketchup. I don't indulge in anything very often-except coffee-since my cravings have all but disappeared. Ed |

Cheese cheese and more cheese. It's the bane of my existence. I only buy the mid to higher priced artisan stuff, though. I'm going through two pounds a week (damn you Costco). I'm working(struggling) to wean myself off of it, or at least limit myself to it once a week. Once or twice a month I drink liquor, beer, and/or wine. |

Still weaning myself off Diet Coke (don't feel so bad, coffee drinkers!). Not quite ready to give up cheese, cream, booze or dark chocolate, although I have limited my intake. |

Beer. I'm willing to cut waaaay back and I've abstained for the last month to prove I can (I used to be a steady good, handcrafted beer per day, perhaps two on the weekends). But in the long run, I'll never really give up beer. Having a beer has always been one of life's great pleasures for me. My friends all gather at a local brewery fairly often. My husband will definitely never give up beer. I'm willing to go to great lengths for my health, but I'm no ascetic! I would like to take up brewing the stuff so I can experiment with gluten-free varieties. |

Tea is my most important non-paleo thing. I gave up my hfc Coke and replaced it with hot tea or iced tea by the gallon. I've never been a coffee drinker, but don't get between me and my teapot! The rest of the list is similar to the above lists: chocolate, cream, cheese, butter, rarely some wine or beer, low carb ice cream or fudge bars a couple times a month. There's some decent low-carb bread that I toast sometimes, but it has soy, which I try to avoid otherwise. I've been debating lately with my guy about whether to go to our old favorite pizza place for one of their faboo pizzas, and peeling the toppings off the crust. It seems so wasteful, but it sounds so good... |

Wine, whiskey and green tea are a few of the big ones. I'm trying to wean myself from diet soda which is tough. I'll still indulge in gluten-free crackers from time to time if I'm eating a pate or bone marrow. |
