I seen a infomercial on this machine that you can put frozen fruit into and it come out like ice cream. Its called the yonanas machine(www.yonanas.com) and I know it looks corny but just wondering if anyone has used this machine and if it works because that would be awesome if it worked as advertized

Totally unnecessary. It's just a blender with a dispenser on it. I use a Magic Bullet or a food processor if doing larger quantities. It is fantastic stuff so I highly recommend the ice cream, just not the gadget. – Shari Bambino Jun 8 2011 at 5:04

I have a yonanas maker and it works amazing. Totally different product and experience than trying any other machine. They nailed making an ice cream substitute with this machine. A blender will not make this. Tried it before, and you have to add liquid and you end up with a smoothies. Food processor takes forever and the consistency is not like ice cream. Also a hassle to clean up. Yonanas are thick and creamy and twirl up right out of the machine into a bowl just like at Dairy Queen...except that is 100% fruit. 15 seconds to clean up. And only $50!!! This is going to be very popular. I recommend it!

Why was this downvoted? Wasn't whether the machine is worth it the question? – Primal Mama Jun 11 2011 at 18:22
Maybe because it's just a little bit *too much like a commercial - both the original question and this answer...but maybe I'm being too cynical. I won't vote up or down, but I believe that's why the downvote came along. BTW, this would only be appropriate for people who wouldn't mind the enormous fructose load they would get with the "ice cream." – GHarkness Jun 11 2011 at 18:52
Now that you say so..... – Primal Mama Jun 11 2011 at 21:11
I looked at the account and there doesn't seem to be anything suspicious. Sorry for any misunderstanding, Mac. – Paul Jun 13 2011 at 5:02
I'm always wary of comments that advertise/support a product...and you look at the profile and it's the ONLY comment they've ever made. – Sunny Beaches Apr 4 2012 at 17:39

A Paleo dream! Just came here to RAVE about the Yonanas machine... I just got it at Bed Bath & Beyond (Canada) with their 20% off coupon for $48 last weekend, and I love it! I've been making healthy 100% PALEO treats using just frozen fruit, (nothing else!), and it really does come out just like smooth creamy ice cream! And no, a blender does NOT work like this does, it requires adding a liquid that this does not. I've been making banana/mango because that's what I had in the freezer already and yuuuuum. I noticed the mango comes out so good on its own you really don't have to use bananas if you don't want to, if it's too sweet for your diet. I just cut up and froze some honeydew to try next. Seriously, this thing is awesome for paleo! I have no more need to "cheat" with real ice cream anymore... which, unfortunately, embarrassingly, I had been doing. Clips galore on youtube if you're curious.

Try pineapple. Buy a fresh one, slice it and freeze it in a singly layer. Put into the yonanas maker, and when it comes out mix with a bit of coconut milk. Just stir it in- and it will blow your mind :). Strawberry banana is pretty gosh darn good too. For those who prefer only berries, raspberry blueberry is yummy. Peach also lends itself well... Banana with a scoop of hazelnut butter and coconut oil with some cinnamon stirred in is also a dream.... – Jen Apr 4 2012 at 13:47

No, but to make banana ice cream I freeze them and then put them in the food processor. Not sure why I would want a specific machine for this. You could also use mushed up bananas and put them in a regular ice cream machine, but I don't have one.

Edited to add link to recipe with pictures, this uses a blender but it is the same basic process

i agree. i have a regular ice cream machine that i have not used once in the ten years that ive had it. plus, you have to plan 24-hours in advance to get it all frozen-like. meh. not for me. the frozen banana in the blender trick is good 'nuff for me. – being Jun 8 2011 at 4:46

Oh my goodness this looks amazing. I can't wait to get some bananas, make them old, and make this. I bet it would be good if you swirled some peanut or almond butter into it.

I actually won one of these from an online contest. After owning it for a few months, I would say it is pretty cool, but if you own a food processor, pretty unnecessary. It does make a very ice cream-like treat, but I can make something similar in my Cuisinart food processor. Also, it is extremely loud when running. It is easy to clean (and I don't have a dishwasher), but to me, it's just an extra gadget taking up more cabinet space.

The ninja is AMAZING... I toss frozen fruit in spin it for a minute (if that) and you have an amazingly delicious fruity frozen treat... better than ice cream!

I've seen two Ninja machines, One is the Master Prep, the other a Blender or "Kitchen System". Which do you have? – Tikivana Jun 11 2011 at 22:57

I have to say I have JUST seen the infomercial. I hope they sell them in England because I WANT one Now!

Oh dear. I have been brainwashed by the marketers. I will sleep on it and see if I still want one tomorrow.

Can you do the coconut milk frozen ice cream with this machine? or jsut frozen fruit?

I've not tried this but apparently they suggest you can freeze liquids in ice cube trays and insert them into the machine. – Missi Apr 4 2012 at 15:20
Haven't used this particular machine, but have a juicer that does the same thing (it appears to work on similar principles). You can basically use anything frozen that will fit through the intake tube, so I'd imagine you could make cubes using coconut milk and whatever else you wanted (vanilla, chocolate?) and use that. I see a recipe on their site that uses frozen yogurt cubes, so I'm pretty sure it would work, though you might have to experiment with ingredients to get a good consistency. – jess6 Apr 4 2012 at 15:32
This machine isn't an ice cream maker, it's got a piece with blades which scrape at the frozen fruit inserted in the intake tray to break it down while it is still frozen. You could do frozen coconut milk, but it's easier to just stir a few spoonfuls of refrigerated coconut milk into your fruit after you put it through the machine. – Jen Apr 4 2012 at 19:40
