Hi everyone.

Recently I posted about my sudden acne increase, which I now believe is not actually acne. I initially noticed that I was getting red bumps on my forehead, but they never turned to acne. I also have red dots all over my back and sides of my body but they don't itch or hurt and haven't turned into acne. I noticed all of this after doing a high dose of a new fish oil after reading Martin Berkhan's recommendation to get 3g of DHA EPA a day. I am not positive that it's the fish oil that's messing me up but I did read that one possible reaction to fish oil is hives here: http://www.energyfirst.com/site/files/essential-fats/Fish-Oil-Side-Effects.htm

Has anyone else had this reaction? I switched from this fish oil: http://www.amazon.com/Nature-Made-Omega-3-1200mg-Softgels/dp/B0000DJAQU

to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Natural-Factors-Rxomega-3-Softgels-240-Count/dp/B002W12DJ6

The most pills I had ever taken with the first supplement was 4 at a time. The most of the second one I took was 6 at a time but only for a couple of days. I was trying to hit that target but I'm thinking it may have been a bad call.

I don't cook with any oils and I eat mostly beef, though it is not grass fed. I have never had this happen to me before so I am cutting out fish oil entirely for at least a week to see if it clears up.

It's not shingles or scabies from my google searching, so that's a relief. It's not contagious or my fiance would have it happening. I'm not sure it's hives exactly but maybe the first google searches that come up are just the extreme versions. I don't think it's stress related as I don't feel stressed out. Thanks for any help!

just sounds like too much for your body at once, sounds like a rash. Try cutting it out for a few days and see if it clears up. I don't like supplementing things for this reason, i react to everything.

I'm cutting it for a week or until it clears up, whichever comes first. – JakeA Jun 8 2011 at 14:08

Did you go camping right before this happened? You are a little far north but what you are describing sounds a lot like redbugs to me, but you didn't mention itching still it might be worth looking into

There's no itching involved and I didn't go camping so hopefully I don't have that. – JakeA Jun 8 2011 at 12:57

Do you get enough vit A(retinol)? I get almost exactly as you describe if I go low in Vit A. Take a 10000 IU supp or eat some liver and see if that helps.

I should be getting enough vitamin A. I am taking Mega Men Sport from GNC which has 5000 IU of it. I also eat a bunch of carrots and other veggies, though I know that doesn't correlate exactly. I may try that approach thanks. – JakeA Jun 8 2011 at 12:59
Just make sure the vitamin A is retinol. Also if your not already try supplementing D and K2 – cliff Jun 8 2011 at 13:40

It sounds like you're describing keratosis pilaris. I suffered from it badly until I started supplementing with flaxseed oil. And it pretty much disappeared. After researching, it seems that it is linked to fatty acids.

That's similar but the bumps are showing up where there are no hair follicles so I don't think it's what i'm having issues with. – JakeA Jun 8 2011 at 15:27
THis may sound silly, but is there anywhere on our bodies that we don't have hair folicles???? – Barb Jun 8 2011 at 15:45
