I've been lurking on HealingWell and it seems some people have embraced the DIY idea quite firmly. I'm wondering has anyone on Paleo Hacks performed this procedure ? Or someone in "paleo" circles. Pfw told me about one case on PaNu (sadly if didn't work for her) but besides that I came up blank.
We already discussed this matter in a similar way on PH but it's been a while and while that thread was aimed more theoretically, this is (hopefully) hopefully her DIY sister.
The reason I became reinterested in this topic was a paper I found the other day. The author, in more or less details, describes the DIY protocol.
Success of Self-Administered Home Fecal Transplantation for Chronic Clostridium difficile Infection Michael S. Silverman, Ian Davis, Dylan R. Pillai
Teaser: METHODS: We sought to investigate whether self- or family-administered fecal transplantation by low volume enema could beused to definitively treat refractory CDI.
RESULTS: We report case series (n=7) where 100% clinical success was achieved intreating these individuals with up to 14 months of follow-up
CONCLUSIONS: Fecal transplantation by low volumeenema is an effective and safe option for patients withchronic relapsing CDI, refractory to other therapies.

So, poo experimentators on PH speak and share !
i would absolutely NOT do this diy unless you are also able to check their feces for other things you might be getting. different types of bacteria are able to turn celiac genes on, cause imbalances in hormonal secretions, open up the intestinal wall and cause leaky gut, etc. Research is showing more and more that gut flora plays much more of a role than we can possibly comprehend right now. I would NOT do this myself because the person you "inherit" bugs from might have "bugs" that are much worse for you than what you have now... (though they work well for your friend, they wont necessarily work for you)
I'd really rather just try to do my best to repopulate my gut flora by eating fermented foods; yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and even those little packets of live active cultures (FloraStore comes to mind).
