I'm curious if anyone knows of a distance learning program for nutrition that supports the paleolithic philosophy of eating, even if it's not strictly paleo... Any ideas?

I'm just starting to look into this; thanks for asking! – Ali Jun 9 2011 at 19:53

I think science speaks for itself. My wife went to Texas Womens University and got her degree in Dietetics. While they aren't pro-paleo, the science of why paleo works was obvious. Now that she's a nutritionist, she is finding that many of her colleagues eat paleo-ish. They understand the effects of grain/sugar on the body and choose not to partake.

Not to mention, getting a degree from a common, well-respected school (even though it's program isn't pro-paleo) will probably aid in your credibility, rather than an obscure program.

Good point- I would love to go to school for dietetics for the credentials but am afraid it would be hugely frustrating :( – Jules K Jun 9 2011 at 14:27

I completed a certification nutrition program a few years ago through the Nutritional Therapy Association. If you are okay with a certificate program, I highly recommend this program. They are based in Olympia, but have pilot programs all over the country now. They are deeply based on WAPF principles, but my main instructor was a type one diabetic who eats basically Paleo without calling it that. Really, Paleo is just a step further along than WAPF, and there are so many shared philosophies. Nora Gedgaudas was a guest instructor a couple of times as well. Anyway, I'd be happy to talk with you further about my experience if you're interested, but here's the link to their website: http://www.nutritionaltherapy.com/

yes, i know two people who went to this program and both are paleo themselves. one has a nutritional consulting business that is doing well, and the other just used it for her own personal development. – being Jun 9 2011 at 17:38
I get their emails, but have never been able to make it work for me. I keep thinking about it though. – sherpamelissa Jun 9 2011 at 17:40

Bauman College seems like a good one, but I've had no luck getting them to send me any info! I've given them my info twice, got nothing :( I think I read that Melissa of Whole9 is currently doing a program with Hawthorn University.
