Dr. K suggests eating a high protein meal immediately upon waking to lower Cortisol and help Leptin sensitivity. I started doing this as an experiment days ago. Then I got a Cortisol test back and it showed I had low Cortisol. So if you have low Cortisol should you still follow Dr. K's protocol?

I asked about this in the other Dr.K breakfast recommendation thread. I too had low AM cortisol according to a saliva test. I'm not certain what that really means, if anything, but it's supposed to mean you need adrenal support in the morning. – Gazelle Jun 9 2011 at 20:48

Hey Gazelle. I read your post before I knew for sure about my low cortisol results. My thought is that it may still be ok to suppress your cortisol in the am with the meal but to either modify the amounts or add other foods in. Apparently there are herbs and supplements one might take for this as well. Or maybe it takes a while to heal this condition with regular paleo. I hope someone will help with an answer before too long. – wood Jun 9 2011 at 23:18
Nice post. I wonder about cortisol as well – Eric Jun 10 2011 at 4:40

leptin resitance leads to adrenal resistance and high cortisol levels. you can assess this two ways.....with a mirror (fat or anorexic appearance) of you can pay up for a reverse T3. My hormone blog really lays this all out and the comments have some really helpful hints to some readers. Low cortisol is another matter and that is a big issue too. – The Quilt Jun 11 2011 at 0:11

Low am cortisol and you should read my post today. That is a sure sign that you got adrenal issues. – The Quilt Jul 9 2011 at 1:03

If you have low cortisol in the morning you should raise it. Cortisol should be higher in the am and lower in the pm.

I'm still fairly new to the Paleo/Primal life... What are you using to monitor your cortisol?

Not monitoring...Is there such a thing as a monitor for Cortisol. You got me? I took a saliva test and it was sent to a lab. Diagnos-tics Inc. Don't know if they are good either. I should ask about them. – wood Jun 9 2011 at 20:33

I don't understand why you would want to lower cortisol in the morning. Are you taking your temperature during the day?

Hey Thomas, Not trying to lower cortisol at all.Trying to counter leptin resistance which supposedly is helped by lowering cortisol first thing in the morning with a protein meal. Now that I know I have low cortisol I don't know if I should try to raise it or lower it in the morning. Looking for a key that fits the lock of health and weight loss:) No I'm not taking my temp. Have in the past and got mostly 96-98 degrees depending on time of day. – wood Jun 10 2011 at 0:03
Thomas love the new avatar... You are killing me. Need to get to the store ASAP. Is that a pint or quart of HD? – Eric Jun 10 2011 at 4:41
