About a year ago I used a hand held device that measures body-fat and got a reading of 10%.

Since then I have lost even more weight and look even leaner. I had a fat caliper test done that measured 7% a few months ago but I am interested in more accurate methods.

Can you recommend a test?

BodPod is relatively cheap (could cost you anywhere from 25-50 dollars) and is very fast. I had one done a couple of months ago. I would go with that one. I don't know what kind of hand device you used, but I would suspect it was very inaccurate. If a person really knows how to use the calipers, that can be an approximation. Most people don't do a good job though.

On a different note, did you go to WVU? I went to undergrad school there as I grew up in southern W.V.

Yeah I went to WVU. Graduated in 09. Just moved back in March. Where have you settled? – WVU Dave Jun 10 2011 at 19:19
I live in California now, in Palo Alto, near San Francisco. I graduated a long time ago, in the early 80s. Did you move back to Morgantown or somewhere else? – Thomas Seay Jun 10 2011 at 22:34

In discussing this question with an exercise physiologist, I was told that the BodPod requires regular calibration and most facilities do not calibrate as often as they should. Hydrostatic is apparently more accurate for this reason.

I use a GE dexa with the body comp module. Most accurate available.

Most Expensive as well... Out of my price range. – WVU Dave Jun 10 2011 at 19:19
