A friend of the family mid 30's, breastfeeding 2 years, fine physical health, has been experiencing a constant low-level nausea for the last 3 days. No changes in her eating patterns. She eats Paleo and does include raw dairy. She will "cheat" here n there with "sweets" coworkers bring to the office. The nausea does not prevent her from eating but doesn't increase or subside, either. No vomiting, bloating or gas. No other detectable symptoms other than a little more tired than usual. Ruled out UTI, giardia, h. pylori. Any thoughts?

When I was nursing I would get some "background nausea" from green tea. Caff, decaf, didn't matter. This only happened when I was breastfeeding and it didn't keep me from eating. Actually eating helped it go away.

Or, maybe she needs a pregnancy test :). Could be?

Lol She'll be peein on the stick tomorrow morning. Could be the first-ever birth announcement on Paleo Hacks! – L. Peltier Jun 12 2011 at 17:58
Do you get a badge for that???? – none Jun 12 2011 at 18:36
Does this mean a + on the pee pee stick, or just too much tea :) – none Jun 15 2011 at 19:48

Has she explored FODMAPS? That's been suggested to me, and I'm checking it out. It would make sense, as many items on my favorite foods list are on the "avoid" FODMAPS list. Just one more thing to try.

She's sure she's not pregnant? I got pregnant when nursing, and rather than nausea, I had urges to throw my toddler off my breast violently. (of course I never did it). That's when I knew I was pregnant, when this urge happened every night. It had happened before, once in a while, and I figured out that it was on the days when I was ovulating. Anyhow, Have her pee on the stick, just to be sure.

Just read about her finishing her period. It could also be that her hormones are out of whack. These things will happen. Also, maybe a new supplement? One brand of pre-natal vitamins made me vomit, while most others do not. – Sara Jun 12 2011 at 19:08
No. She does not use supplements. – L. Peltier Jun 13 2011 at 0:09

I regularly experience nausea with the onset of my next cycle. I would suggest that she track these symptoms and see if they align with hormonal fluctuations.

Her cycles aren't regulated because of breastfeeding, but she is currently every 5 weeks. Yesterday was the last day of her period, and the nausea developed 3 days ago. – L. Peltier Jun 12 2011 at 17:28

It could have been implantation bleeding rather than a period so taking a home pregnancy test would be my next suggestion. – Heather Jun 12 2011 at 19:03
