A pretty common theme on PaleoHacks.com is to train fasted. I think I am going to try this, as I am on a mission to lose my last few pounds of body fat. I am currently at 170lbs, and 13% body fat -- with a goal of being sub 10%.
I am strict paleo, and recently starting counting calories. All of my other areas are in order (sleep, etc.), so I am looking to add in some fasted training.
With that said, how many hours before a workout should one fast? I usually CrossFit at 6:00 PM in the evening due to work schedules. I am a bit of a nut-case and go six days a week -- but that's another story.
Leangains is awesome. But if you're looking to cut, you may need to scale back the number of times you Crossfit per week. Too often in a metcon wod and you get raised cortisol levels and it makes it darn near impossible to lose weight/lean out.
Robb Wolf recently said on a podcast that some of his leanest trainers only train 2-3 times per week. It sounds counterintuitive, I know.
His podcast right before his latest one, he said that you'll prolly get the most out of fasted heavy weight training and just walking for cardio. Drink some green tea or coffee. Then, if you really need or want to be a firebreather, don't do it more than 2-3 times a week.
I LOVE Crossfit and it really agrees with my competitive nature (I did the 6 am wod every day for nearly a year). Now, though, I'm trying to recover from overtraining.
