I made sweet potato fries last night. I fry them in grass-fed tallow, and they are very, very good. We have them maybe once a month, if that. Other than that, we eat sweet potatoes maybe once a week and that, besides the occasional winter squash in winter months, is about the extent of our starches.
This morning I logged into Twitter and found this directed at me:
some #paleo "people" like @JanSushiBar be going crazy eating all sorts of #yams and #sweetpotatofries. #notreallypaleosister
I'm tempted to just ignore it, but I'm also tempted to respond with "SOME #paleo "people" like @(name redacted) are self-righteous little snots #zealots #assholes
How do you deal with stuff like this?
Paleo isn't a religion where you go to hell if you don't follow the non-existent rules >.< Even if sweet potatoes and yams weren't paleo (as if there's a clear definition for that) - you're an adult who gets to eat what you want.
I wouldn't respond - childish behavior shouldn't be acknowledged.
Do you really care what this person thinks?
Sweet potatoes are fine for people who like them and can eat them without interfering with their goals.
Check one of her previous tweets, though - she's eating french green beans and tomatillo salsa. Pot <-> kettle etc.
Don't respond with anger, but with humor. Something along the lines of "Some #paleo people like @(name-redacted) be going crazy using computers and tweeting, prolly wearing clothes even! #notreallypaleo"
Or just say you're Paleo 2.0, link to Dr. Harris, and tell her she needs to upgrade!
we evolved eating tubers.
We also evolved sticking sharp spears into members of warring tribes...
One of these is modernly acceptable, I'll let you choose which. ;)
People who are so sure that their view of what they think is correct that they make with mockery DESERVE to be ignored.
I see nothing wrong with what you made, and I make chips like that sometimes.
May I recommend dipping them in homemade spicy mayo? (the fries, not the zealots)
Update: Added recipe link in comments below!
Ignore the trolls and focus on what's right for you and yours. I eat tubers and I think they're something humans have been eating for a long time. Self-righteous paleo zealots with severe myopia are to be ignored. If people were particles, they would be the the anti-vegan zealots. However, neither one has a positive spin, so the physics needs to be worked out. ;-)
I don't see how that's not paleo, but we all have varying opinions on that.
Doesn't sound like it's worth the effort of a response. Most likely anything you say will turn out looking just as silly as the original comment.
It's pretty obvious that even with the name redacted, anyone who cares to know can find them. The "Should I feed internet trolls?" question is a very thinly veiled, passive agressive retaliation and should be removed.
There are plenty of useful threads on the topic of civilly discussing what paleo is, isn't, and discrimination against those who practice different flavors of it.
