Hooray! My boss had paid for unlimited yoga for us at the vinyasa place in our building! I'm so excited to do yoga regularly again.
I'm wondering, those of you who CrossFit and do yoga, have you found a certain scheduling protocol that enhances mobility gains and recovery? Say, yoga in the morning and CrossFit in the evening, or yoga the day after a heavy WOD, as the only structured exercise? Something else?
I know this is super-tweaky minutiae, but it'll help me to figure out how I'm going to work things into my life. Thanks!
I am a Crossfit coach. I do yoga twice a week and have for the last 5 months. One of the days, it falls on a WOD day for me, so I space it out and make sure I am dialed in my nutrition that day to allow for recovery. I don't have any trouble making PR's in weight/time/reps because of yoga, it has only helped with my strength, flexibility, balance, focus, and much more.
I don't know what 'yoga as needed' means. Yoga is needed. I'm glad you're excited about it. My advise- Research. Try different combinations and figure out what is going to work with your body, not against it.

I'd stick with something like that. Yoga can take it's toll, but the stretching and mobility work would be great after a fire-breather. Don't forget to get plenty of rest!
If it's a Vinyasa class depending on a level it could be quite intense. But not as intense as Bikram. Doing it on the day of CrossFit might lead to fatigue and injury.
I would recommend Iyengar level 1-2 on your resting day after heavy WOD that way you won't overexercise.
Also try restoratives, pranayama and meditation classes to calm down your parasympathetic nervous system.

i personally found that I liked to do yoga and crossfit on alternate days. the yoga really helped work out my tight muscles after a tough wod.
I'm still fairly new to Crossfit, so take my opinion at face value. I would experiment for a week or two and see how you feel.
You could try:
Crossfit in the AM, Yoga in the PM
Alternate days between CF and Yoga
Yoga as needed only.
I used to do yoga in the mornings and Crossfit at night and it didn't give me any problems. Now my schedule has changed and I'm doing yoga on the in between nights instead. I prefer this because yoga just feels great after a tough workout the day before. I feel like I'm getting more out of it.
