Background: I’m a volunteer FS Wilderness Ranger and Wilderness Instructor for the Sierra Club. I also have my own business that keeps me on the road a lot.
Since I love to cook, I’ve been responsible for food planning for trips and wilderness patrols for many years – the switch to Paleo after finding out that I’m Celiac introduced a few new challenges in backcountry meal planning. When I’m not in the backcountry, I’m often on the road for my own business and that can present food-centric challenges of it’s own.
Is there a need for a site dedicated to Eating Paleo on the Move?
After meeting several other Paleo/Celiac/Gluten sensitive Rangers at one of our gatherings this year, I’ve been entertaining the idea of putting together a site dedicated to offering solid info, tips, tools, resources, links, and recipes for staying Paleo when you’re on the move- especially in the backcountry.
The site would start out as a blog covering my experiences with:
-Planning for Paleo backpacking/road trips
-Food arrangements with non-Paleos while backpacking /travelling and how to avoid cross-contamination
-Reviews of Paleo friendly backcountry/’on the road’ products
-Tips, tricks, recipes, links
Basically: It’s (somewhat) easy enough to eat Paleo at home and avoid cross contamination/etc, but how do you do it with ease and efficiency (on a budget) when you’re on the go?
I’m thinking the site would likely appeal to:
-Active Paleos
-Celiac/Gluten Sensitive backpackers
-PCT/AT thru hikers
-GAPS & WAPF crowds
QUESTION(s):
To your knowledge, is there anything out there like this? Would you as a Paleohacker be interested?
Will this be more effective focusing just upon paleo in the wilderness or should it also include staying Paleo on the road?
What would you like to see in such a site beyond the usual tips and recipes?
I’m currently just fishing to see if this would be worth me investing my free time- I love to share info, but I want it to be something that people can truly use.
