If CoEnQ10 is the supplement suggested for people on statins, as Dr K mentions on his blog, then what is the supplement for people on other medications, such as Adderall?

The claim is that statins' side effects inhibit cells from making the required energy in certain parts of the body because statins deplete CoEnQ10. Thus statin users should supplement with it.

What are analogues for other drugs?

Adderall is the only drug that I must take, so obviously I'm particularly interested in the damage it does and in what I can do to minimize or neutralize that damage. But I'm sure that many of you have to be on other drugs, and thus will have similar questions for whatever drugs you are on - so, of course, please ask away!

We probably need doctors for this one, but not necessarily, since many of you probably have experience with numerous drugs.

Adderal causes leptin signal ing issues long term. It's not a good drug to take long term. There are many drug depleting syndromes. Diabetes depletes Mg and Zn big time. Diuretics deplete na and k and several minerals. Fructose consumption can effect fe stores. Coumadin depletes vit k......many others – The Quilt Jun 14 2011 at 16:24

So far Adderall is the only drug that allows me to get any work done. My last attempt to get off of it resulted in a devastating stretch of zero productivity. Dr K: can you recommend either (a) ways I can mitigate the leptin signaling effects that are unique to Adderall side effects, or (b) alternatives to Adderall that I might try? I'd be very grateful for this. I'll also note that I'm sure others would benefit from a longer list of drugs, their depleting syndromes, and possible hacks to fix or mitigate these depletions. – Eric S Jun 14 2011 at 17:21
As to the effect of alternative medications on AADHD, I can only speak of my experience with bupropion (aka Wellbutrin, Zyban). I found it to be not quite as effective as Adderall, but it certainly helped. If taken in combination, it blocks reuptake of the neurotransmitters that Adderall elicits, so you may be able to take a lower dosage to achieve similar effects. ADHD is a common off label use of this antidepressant, which also gets prescribed for smoking cessation and obesity. You might speak to your doc about this, or the other non-stimulants. – Alfredo Jun 16 2011 at 1:32
I cant but I would talk to your doctor about other options. – The Quilt Sep 15 2011 at 18:16

when i take beta-interferon drugs for my multiple sclerosis, i also supplement with milk thistle. beta-interferons are rough on the liver, and milk thistle offers some protection.

im not currently taking any disease modifying drugs so im not supplementing right now. i may have to start myself back up on a drug called avonex in september, at which point ill start taking it again. fingers crossed it wont be the case though.

all great things. NAC is also great for the liver because it converts to glutathione. – The Quilt Sep 15 2011 at 18:17
