I'm reminded of the old saying "The difference between pharmacology and toxicology is Dosage." Enjoy your entertainment - nothing wrong with that. Just make sure you're not consumed by it. |

I watch really bad reality TV. I don't feel bad about it. It's my way of relaxing after a day of thinking really hard at work. If your day revolves around the TV, maybe that's not so good, but really who are we to judge? When books started to get cheap (early 1900's) people started to complain that kids these days spent too much time reading and not enough time doing other stuff. Now people want their kids to read and not play video games. In 20 years, I bet we would rather our kids play video games than whatever the next new thing is. I'd say there's nothing inherently wrong with the TV or Internet, but if it interferes with your life (like say you won't go out with friends for fear of missing something), then you may want to look into cutting back. |

I'm also a tv addict as well, but what I now do is keep it on and work in the other room. Its nice to hear whats going on but not actually sitting there watching all day. I work from home, so I can move freely, stop and watch something that catches my eye and get back up and keep moving around the office and house. Its something about being home alone all day without much human interaction for me, so I like the 'noise' it makes. I no longer sit there all day with my laptop on my lap either. I have come to realize what a time waster it is for me, but I'm weaning myself off it slowly!! So, find something that works for you to get the best of both worlds!! |

I think it's fine in moderation. If you can balance all other things in life that are so much more important (family, work, play, etc.) and still get some TV and surfing in, then why not? |

The tv doesn't influence me much, but sometimes I feel like I'll miss out on something huge if I'm not online. With any addiction (and the internet is an addiction) I could make up unlimited excuses as to why I should sit here and browse. The truth of the matter is though that nothing has ever come up online that has made me think "Thank god I was here instead of out having living life!" When I spend my day away from the computer, no matter what I'm doing, I always feel more productive and feeling productive always feels healthier to me. |

I'm very grateful that I don't like modern television much. I am on the internet often, which isn't good. I've read a study showing that a total (throughout the day) of 4-6 hours of sitting (watching TV or on the computer) increases heart disease risk and even metabolic syndrome--not good. Recently I saw an article where a woman installed a treadmill in her cubical at work. While on the computer and answering phones, she was walking or standing. I'm sure she sat down occasionally, but I thought it was such a great idea! |
