I was just curious as I noticed a while back that upvoted comments no longer seemed to have an impact on rep. What's the total personal rep threshold, if any, for earning reputation points via upvoted comments?

P.S. I skimmed the FAQ for this answer but didn't see anything. Apologies if I missed it!

Per FAQ, reputation is awarded for "asking and answering questions." You can get points for the following:

  1. receiving upvotes for your questions and answers (10 points)
  2. having your answer accepted by the questioner (15 points)
  3. accepting an answer to your question (2 points)
  4. being awarded a bounty (100 points or more)

You do not get reputation points for upvotes on comments. However, there is a silver badge available called "Pundit," which no one has earned as of this date. To earn a Pundit badge, you must receive at least 10 upvotes on each of 10 comments.

Hope this helps.

i think they only ever have an impact if there are a certain number. maybe >10? it's in the faq somewhere.

wait, i just checked, and don't see it. did i make that up? whoa. – g. Jun 17 2011 at 17:58
I couldn't find it either. You do have to have 50 to be able to comment, but I don't remember comment upvoting ever going to rep – Vrimj Jun 17 2011 at 18:02

It's weird b/c I knew comment votes didn't up rep, but then I thought I read that they do, after an accumulation of votes. Am I dreaming about PH? Wow. Frightening. – g. Jun 17 2011 at 18:12

200 per day fam grok. you get a medal for reaching it too.

"Mortarboard × 46 Hit the daily reputation cap for the first time"

although one day i was stuck at 199 (because of a single downvote that i couldn't reverse) and got several more upvotes that I didn't get credit for. So essentially I hit the reputation limit without actually hitting the reputation limit. It was an odd glitch that I think probably never happens.

I guess what I notice is even before hitting the daily limit, I might get rep points for an answer or question, but an upvoted comment has no impact on the rep...whereas (maybe I was imagining it?!) I thought that comment upvotes at one point in time in my past awarded rep points. – familygrokumentarian Jun 17 2011 at 18:42
what about threads that turned into community wiki? are you considering this into your calculations? – Jack Kronk Jun 17 2011 at 18:50
Even on threads that aren't community wiki...I guess I just seem to remember that once upon a time upvotes on comments raised my rep, but as far as I can tell they haven't had any impact in my rep in quite some time, and was wondering if there was a threshold, or a rule change, or it was all in my head! – familygrokumentarian Jun 17 2011 at 19:28

Familygrok, I don't think upvoted comments have any effect on your reputation score. I have never noticed this myself. There's some chance a comment voted to 10 or higher has an effect, but I somehow doubt that. The 10 or higher thing does come into play (maybe this is what Grenadine was thinking about) in getting the Pundit badge. No one has this one yet. paleohacks.com/badges/94/pundit – Paul Jun 17 2011 at 22:46
oh! you are talking about upvoted COMMENTS! Oh wow. I am so dumb. I thought you meant upvoted answers this whole time. – Jack Kronk Jun 18 2011 at 1:12
