i got my kids a bunch of books about gardening and farming that are very cool. not necessarily about food, but about the process of making food. i really want them to think about where their food comes from, and they certainly are more likely yo try something new if they have participated in growing, cooking or gathering it in some way.
blueberries for sal
jamberry
the very hungry caterpillar
jody's beans
pickin' peas
big red barn
charlottes web
the carrot seed
growing vegetable soup
and the good brown earth
just like mama (a bit of a christian theme)
the milk makers
the honey makers
i know there are a bunch of great ones out there. we have one about maple sugaring, and some about commercial fishing, too. we get a lot from the library and the librians are always really helpful in finding what we are looking for. my son is really into tractors right now, and my daughter is really into the baby animals being born at the farm.
