I wonder if our bones break less easily after long term paleo eating.

Propper nutrition through paleo eating should strengthen the bones, shouldn't it?

What did you experieance?

In my research, I have found that paleo does not fully protect collarbones from flying over the handlebars and doing a faceplant down the side of a mountain.

Oh my - and I thought it was dramatic when my sister broke her big toe. Care to share the circumstances which had you hurtling over handlebars and face-first into a mountainside? Or has Wile E. Coyote gone Paleo? ;) – Simibee Jun 20 2011 at 18:35

I don't think mountain biking is paleo. ;) seriously though, hope you are recovering (or have already recovered) okay... – Kirsten Jun 20 2011 at 20:26

I've broken 7 fingers and a few toes in my life, but since I started taking a vitamin D supplement there have been times when I thought for sure I'd broken another, but after the pain subsided I realized I was fine. I can't say with any real certainty that this "proves" anything about vitamin D, but I have think it's prevented some breaks.

As for a Paleo diet contributing, I'm sure it doesn't hurt - specifically with an all around better vitamin/mineral absorbency.

Just to add a contradictory anecdote: I broke two toes after a while on Paleo with excellent vitamin D status (perhaps too high? at ~70 ng/mL) and they took way longer to heal than I thought they would. Say, around 4-6 months. – JJ Jun 22 2011 at 13:42

I wish I could say otherwise, but I did indeed crack a rib last year (after 2 solid years of paleo). BUT, a few months ago my hand got slammed in a door (twice in a row!) and it only crushed some ligaments!
