Can you recommend a Nutritional yeast product that you like that also tastes good?
Other than sprinkling it on foods 'like cheese' what other uses are there for this?
trying to go full dairy free.....
I got my nutritional yeast from Puritan's pride, puritianpride.com the folks who make vitamins and products out in Long Island. I had it left over from my "vegan" days, sitting in unopened canisters.
But wash lots of Kale and use a spinner or toss it in a large collander. Use a blender with some oil 1/4 cup, (ok if olive oil), salt, a little pepper (black or cayene), yeast (not too much it is very "cheesey"! I would only use 2-3 Tablespoons max!!) and some lemon/lime juice (spash, less than 1 tablespoon) to keep kale nice and green. Blend the wet mixture well, adding it slowly to the kale, so it LIGHTLY coats it. (you can store it for the next batch, or add some more lemon juice, and use it as a SALAD DRESSING!!!
Lightly coated kale can be put in the oven, but using a dehydrator for 4-6 hours makes it WONDERFUL!!!
Other variations are adding red pepper flakes, or garlic salt (then do not use any salt!!!) or onion powerder. Yum Yum.....
I would use it in limited quantities, since while it's "natural" it's also made in factories. Pretty much all the brands taste the same. IKINP (I know it's not paleo) but it's awful good on popcorn.
I've used both KAL and Now brands and liked them both. I didn't find much difference between the two. This stuff really does give a nice cheesy flavor. I use it mainly for making dehydrated kale chips or other veggie chips in the dehydrator but it's great just sprinkled on cooked veggies.
The raw foodies are big into this stuff so you might want to check out some raw food recipe sites for more ideas on how to use this stuff.
