I just had 2 pieces of pizza for lunch. Then afterward had a piece of peach cobbler at my company potluck.

I feel like garbage... like I have a brick in my stomach. And now I have a sugar headache. This is ridiculous. It's going to be quite a while before I try to pull a stunt like this again.

Sometimes confessing these things can help you and others learn from it rather than bottling it up inside and not telling anyone. But if you find yourself coming to this thread to put another i-just on here too many times, it may reveal to you that you i-just too often. (kinda like when you track your frivolous spending for the first time ever, only to be shocked at the truth. haha)

What did you "just"?

I have chosen to make this a Community Wiki so that votes do not play a role.

Today I also had two pieces of pizza. I've always had a soft spot for pizza... it's my kryptonite! – Leanne Jun 24 2011 at 1:16
i made cupcakes this weekend for a fundraiser (though they were gluten-free, I ate a whole spoonful of frosting ;/ – Vern Aug 1 2011 at 15:48

I just learned that a month of higher carb intake, even from paleo sources such as rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, plantains, and bananas, has caused me to gain 12 pounds. At least, that's what the scale said :(

After my cousin's wedding this weekend, I'm gonna go back on the train. Promise.

Yes im sure. I don't eat dairy with the exception of kerrygold butter, and I haven't had a "cheat" in months. Bananas are my weakness; I can eat five and still be hungry (I have, in fact). Frankly, your shark was a little insulting. :/ – Sgroh87 Jun 23 2011 at 21:40

I, too, will gain weight if I eat rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc. Starch = weight gain (for me). Jack, believe me, I wish I were like you and could eat all that. Well, actually, what I really want is crusty, warm sourdough bread to eat with creamy, fatty, French cheese. Sigh! – PaleoPalate Jun 23 2011 at 21:53

Add me to the list of those who gain easily with starch and fruit. Starch is not safe for everyone no matter what Jaminet or anyone else says. – Shari Bambino Jun 23 2011 at 22:02

I apologize for my phone's autocorrect; that was supposed to say snark. I do look fatter. My belt fits tighter, and my stomach protrudes more. At work I carry large boxes of materials, and it used to be that I could feel it resting against my ribcage more than my belly. Now it's my belly that presses against the boxes. I am physically active and on my feet five hours a day. I work in a paint store, and the job description includes moving around, on average, several hundred 10 or 50 pound weights. You're getting awfully close to saying that I'm fat because I'm lazy. :/ – Sgroh87 Jun 23 2011 at 22:37

i get really, REALLY puffy and gain like crazy eating paleo friendly starches, too. just like what youre describing, too. i could easily gain 12 in a month on a rice and sweet potato binge. EASILY. and im not lazy, either. and yeah, my pants stop fitting. itkes about as long to get back down as it did to get up there, too. im with you, sghoh87. – being Jun 24 2011 at 1:16

I have a cream tea planned for June 30th - scone, jam and clotted cream. I don't often go off diet but when I do I make sure it's worth it.

That's my motto, too. If I'm gonna do, do it right. I once read a Jewish proverb that said, "If you're going to eat pork, let the juice drop from your chin." Yes! – PaleoPalate Jun 23 2011 at 21:55
And when we got there it was scones, butter and jam - no cream because the shop hadn't delivered it! I didn't bother, came home and had fruit and cream for dessert. – Jean Jun 30 2011 at 20:58
Amen! That's my rule too. Love that proverb. – turkeytyme Aug 1 2011 at 15:29

I just messed up my fasting with a way-late dinner, then went and had a huge oreo sundae! Go hard or go home, right?

Oooh you caught me Jack! Yesterday I ate a doughnut (and i am still paying for it) It wasn't even that good - and I knew at the time it was bad - but sometimes I just need to break a rule - next time I have to find a different kind of rule to break.

Dude, for the first time in like, forevah I ate a piece of pizza last night. Surprisingly I don't feel poorly today. I thought about it and wondered how much my icky feeling from cheats is caused by my mind rather than the actual food. So I've been fasting all day and didn't have any coffee but still, I feel guilty for the gluten.

Damn you for making me want a peach cobbler. (said as I'm licking the spoon used by my kids to make brownies )

mmm paleo brownies I hope! That is probably my biggest confession actually- I love paleo/primal treats and I don't care that everyone says "be careful not to indulge too much".. paleo cookies and brownies yum- also working on a paleo donut recipe :D – thatonecrazylady Jun 23 2011 at 21:19

Donuts? For realz? Yeah, these weren't paleo but the kids have been so damn good for months that I figured what the hell. They found an old box while foraging through the pantry. I heard "Score!" and just knew... – baconbitch Jun 23 2011 at 21:30

I'm working on a Paleo based way of eating (notice how I didn't say "diet..."), purely for health benefits and food control. However, if, and when I do have a 'blow out' per say (and I will, I'm human, and I like food), I'm not going to get too stressed out about it. I do find it amusing that a lot of people who are attempting an alternative way of eating, discuss at depth, their opinions (educated or otherwise!) on 'this' and 'that' regarding nutrition etc, then in the next sentence, confess (with obvious guilt) their straying from the goal ie. eating 'non' paleo foods. I often wonder if people attempting paleo (or other), are doing themselves more damage, albeit emotional, by focusing sooo hard on 'being good', them making themselves sick with guilt and worry when they 'be human' sometimes. Please, relax! Be proud of your achievements, but don't worry so much if you have that piece of pizza, piece of cake, donut etc. It's not the end of the world. Climb back on the horse and continue. Because I guarantee, that you'll (including me) fall back off the horse again....and again. Big deal. (I'm sure if 'Grok' came across a 7/11 all those years ago, he wouldn't care if he went for the donut and ice cream, or stress out after it!!!!

Devoured some delicious beef brisket that was slathered in sweet, spicy barbeque sauce. I'm sure its loaded with sugar but dang! It's so good I'm licking my fingers.

I bought marshmallows at the grocery store last night.

I have a weakness for them -- no idea why, they don't even taste that great, but maybe it's a texture thing, or that I have a deep love for burnt carbon -- but they lure me in. It was a caramel flavored 'mallow. I ate two in the car on the ride home. Since then, I've been zeroing in on the bag every time I enter the kitchen, picking it up, holding it to my face, and inhaling deeply.

I don't mind that I ate them, but too much sugar and I start to feel like tepid death. Must. Exercise. Restraint.

Sigh, I love me some marshmallow. ^_^

ok - so we've got to come up with a homemade paleo marshmallow recipe - since home-made marshmallows have gelatin in them it may not be that hard to figure out....hmmm...gotta get one of the foodies on here on this stat! – Thumper Jun 23 2011 at 23:36
Heh, believe me, I've tried. I've done it with date molasses as well as honey (maybe rice syrup would be best to avoid the sugar spike?). Even as I was fondling the bag in the store, my fella was reminding me that I know how to make marshmallows. Still...the little puffy buggers lured me in. I'm powerless to resist them! :D – Kaz Jun 24 2011 at 0:17

My house now smells like toasted caramel marshmallows. No idea how that happened. -innocent eyes- – Kaz Jun 24 2011 at 0:18

I restarted my very old fitday account and found marshmallows in my custom foods. I also found pancakes, certain biscuits and sweets. Which may go a long way to explain why I found it so hard to track calories and loose weight in the old days. Marshmallows are no friend of mine ;) – Minnie The Minx Jun 24 2011 at 3:03

I'm a non-traditional student back in college majoring in a high stress field (science). I can attest to caving into the pressure of my friends here and going on a hot-saki rendezvous at the local sushi bar. But I did consume high amounts of raw, wild caught fish with the Saki so that has to count for something, doesn't it?

mmmmm sake - i love sake - hot or cold - sake-rendezvous sounds just delightful! – Thumper Jun 23 2011 at 23:32
It was more like a rampage. LOL. – BAMBAM Jun 24 2011 at 0:02

I'm so excited I finally have something to add Peanut butter and banana. Yep. You heard right. I just ate a big banana smothered in peanut butter. Yeah go big or go home indeed. Hey it's the best I got!

On a side note, good grief that was so freaking delicious! Are we SURE peanut butter isn't paleo? Can we do a write-in campaign to get it on the approved list???

I have to go to the Godiva store this week for a gift so I may have more to add in a few days.

Yea, esp. if you're at the Godiva store on one of their big sample giveaway days. How would one say no to free boutique chocolate? – familygrokumentarian Jun 27 2011 at 0:14
Oh I'm a frequent buyer member so I get a free piece just for walking in the door every month AND I get a free birthday piece this month and no I DO NOT say not to free Godiva. Not in this lifetime. It's a given at least one piece is going down my throat. I'm just hoping I can get away with just that bit of damage. We shall see. – Shari Bambino Jun 27 2011 at 1:36

Mine hasn't happened yet, but I am planning it and greatly anticipating it. Let's hope I'm not let down. We're a military family stationed overseas and our Taco Bell has been closed for two years while renovations were being done. Well, it's due to reopen any day now and I will be having me some Taco Bell. As long as my cheats are only one meal and happen infrequently they don't seem to mess me up.

I went to the movies with my girlfriend and we went to Kelly's right before and bought about $12 dollars worth of fudge and other treats...and ate it all pretty fast. I woke up later that night and felt like I was about to throw up as if I had the flu.

I once left a package of grass-fed beef liver in the fridge for days because I thought it smelled disgusting. After a few days I had no choice but to toss it in the trash.

Oh wait, I did that 3 different times!

I want to cry...

I really love beef liver now, it's so tasty. But at this time of the year it's really difficult to get grass-fed beef liver from farmers. When I last bought it, I checked with 4 farmers and they all said it was the last they had. I asked if it usually sold well, they said no... no one wants to buy it so they just feed it to the dogs! They're crazy! CRAZY!

...

I want to cry :-D

Ohkay, I saw beef liver and lamb liver at the grocery store the other day! On my trip to the store I was like YES Im going to buy liver today!! And when I got there and saw it sitting among the tripe and kidneys I just couldn't do it. I said next time i will buy it, so fingers crossed i have more courage next week :) – sarah Apr 19 at 6:23
Oooh I would love if my store had tripe and kidney! I could use the tripe to make sausage (I don't like anything sold in stores and I know how to make sausage), and I'd love to learn how to cook kidney. I never liked it much growing up, but my mother didn't have the internets, did she now? ;-) – a mesmerizing trickster Apr 19 at 6:48

I just ate a couple of Jelly Belly jellybeans from the office candy bowl. I feel guilty. :( Little bits of candy tend to me my cheats. I don't go as far as grains/beans.

Gave in to a pint of Dark Chocolate Coconut Bliss for lunch, instead of my plan of skipping any food during the middle of the day. Tried to justify it as paleo... but all that agave ... ech

Did penance later at work by sprinting 8 flights of stairs to a parking structure roof top, doing intervals of elevated push ups, dips, sprints, lunges, etc. in the blazing sun. Further self flagellation with intense BJJ that night.

Polished off a few pieces of chocolate last night.

I was so ill I couldn't sleep. Lesson learned!

I have learned that lesson a few times. Late night dark chocolate = broken sleep = cranky – Minnie The Minx Jun 24 2011 at 3:06

...I began to eat more fruit, and leaning toward a higher carb paleo diet, as in 50-60% of my calories coming from carbohydrate. Dang, finding it kind of hard to do, it was much easier to pour coconut oil on everything than it is eating 5+ pounds of potatoes.

I so want to downvote you for having the nerve to whine about having to eat pounds of potatoes and fruit. (and yes I am just jealous.) – Shari Bambino Jun 23 2011 at 21:59

I make popsicles out of Jello for the kids (they don't complain about the tiny serving size (about 2oz per pop), and it doesn't drip like plain juice popsicles), and have eaten several of them myself in the past few days. I think maybe I'm done eating them, but I feel bad about giving them to the kids, too!

100% Paleo since April 1, 2011 and have not cheated or gave in to yet...I'm pretty sure I owe that to paleo-hacks and all the nightmare scenarios that you have shared. The headaches, bloating, overall general malaise.

Not worth it.

Definitely striving for the Paleo lifestyle rather than the "30 day diet"

I went to Wendys for Lunch today with a coworker. I skipped breakfast because I was late, and forgot my lunch. I had a 1/4 single stack and a caesar salad, no croutons. And most of a large Diet Coke. I am counting calories, and managed to still stay under my number, but it was a bad bad thing.

:-(

Ate a big chocolate chip cookie fresh from the oven. Was made with real butter and organic ingredients. But still, I just can't have stuff like that in the house. I was baking dozens of them this afternoon for my neighbor and the smell was intoxicating. I told myself it was hideous horrid stuff..and still, I ate it. Damn. I will pay for it later with a headache or stomach cramps.

The cookies have left the house now. DH said didn't even want one, he's Soooo good.

Last night I had three Magner's ciders and a healthy dose of Jameson's whiskey. I actually had to take painkillers this morning (shocker!).

Today I've had quite a bit of local raw goatsmilk feta, kerrygold reserve cheddar, and more fruit than I normally eat (grapes and blueberries).

I just had a vanilla cupcake with white chocolate chips. It's pure garbage concoction, but somehow, it taste amazing. It's not right. So anyway if I check out early, just know that it wasn't my lab results from eating Paleo. It was the vanilla cupcake! jejeje

I hate to cook and some nights, when I'm in a hurry to get to work, I end up stopping at Walmart and buying something I can heat in a microwave. Definitely happens more often than it should.
