any question that gets 27 other answers needs to be asked lkco.......again. People need to know and apparently could careless about the search feature. I think this is a useless task. People come here for current events. – The Quilt Jun 25 2011 at 2:37

Finally, a sex question. I can only read so much about ketosis and safe starches... – wjones3044 Jun 28 2011 at 21:28

Danielle, your answers are terse but always have an "effect" on me. "I take a little toke before bed". "I need a little 'something everyday or every other day'". I remember just about everything you've written. – Thomas Seay Jun 24 2011 at 2:39

imagine your sex drive about a week postpartum, while youre using your drain snake to get hair out of the shower drain, and the phone starts ringing while the baby is screaming and its your husband telling you he just got busted for a DUI. thats about where my sex drive is.

ETA: ill take the time to note that my husband has never been bagged for a DUI. im using imagery to illustrate. everything else is totally true.

ETA take 2: seriously, i have two little kids and am under and extraordinary amount of stress due to aforementioned husbands very long term unemployment and working on my lil business every night until midnight. its pretty understandable that i just want to curl up and go into a coma whenever i get the chance. i ind that stress had a much more profound effect on libido than anything else for me.

Increased. Before it was embarrassingly low...poor hubby. Now, I joke at what a cougar I've become! I'm not sure if it's the weightloss or the diet.

Female, 37, lowish carb paleo until recently, high intensity exercise until recently, two kids 4 and 1, attractive hubby, very little sex drive.

I wonder if sex drive is a feast or famine phenomenon. Higher carbs = feast and therefore sex drive?

Low-carb Paleo = greater stamina, increased interest, women all around seem to notice me more.

I was no slouch pre-paleo, but it has made a noticeable difference, so I am not complaining

Pre-Paleo I already had a very healthy sex drive. I would say it's increased a little since starting Paleo, but it may just be other circumstances. I think my weight loss was the biggest proponent in increasing the sex drive, not so much what I've been eating.

Low-carb paleo killed it. Horrible.

More and more starch and I'm back in action.

Resistance training coincided with increasing my starch a lot so I'll never know but I think guys benefit from weight training big time.

On SAD: low.

On low-carb paleo: high during my follicular phase and low during my luteal phase.

On low-protein, mod-carb, high-fat paleo: higher on average than low-carb paleo.

I'm 27 and have never had much sex drive. Going Paleo doesn't seem to have changed it one way or the other.

Sure, sex is fun, but I'm usually just as happy with going to sleep earlier, lol.

Not much difference. I guess I was healthy heading into the diet though so maybe I'm the wrong person to comment on it. I've always been a once-a-monther but I believe I inherited that trait from my father according to reports (that I never wished to here).

Good, very good, and a healthy attitude towards sex, too. Although I can't be sure if it is lack of grains or more fats and micronutrients that improves things. I'm not really eating more meat than I did before I started focusing on my health, but it is grass-fed, that might matter.

I know that a no meat diet was DEATH in that department, so was a low fat diet. So would a very high protein diet, I think. What I'm doing works. I don't think most people emphasize nutrition and in fact their paleo diet puts them at risk of deficiencies because most people simply don't think about that. But our hormonal health is dependent upon nutrition.

I find higher sex drive when I boost the (safe) carbs. Better overall feeling when I get at least around 150g (out of 3000-3500 kcals/day)

I've usually had the sex drive of a 17 year old boy but lately I'm more like AKD. It could be stress but if I take that out of the equation I'd say my libido has gone down. I'm curious if there is a disconnect between men and women in that dept on paleo.

It would be great if posters to this question mentioned if they are male/female/other. I'd find that helpful.

Yep. Lifting heavy stuff does it, but I also think the increased carbs with the lifting has helped me. Now, I have a little giddy-yap that I didn't have while lifting heavy but lower carb. I'm about to turn 35 and am randier than I have felt since I was in my mid 20s.

Sex is AWESOME.

Paleo has definitely helped- probably since I was going from a state of semi-malnutrition with severe malabsorption (undiagnosed celiac) to eating an amazing nutritionally dense diet.

Eh, mine's been pretty lame, but I think it's due to other factors, one of which being birth control. It was in the dumps when I was using Nuvaring, improved a little after switching to Ortho-Tricyclen Lo. I'd like to get off the pill but am getting major pushback from the ol' ball & chain! Curious how things would be without it...

It made a HUGE difference for me to be off hormones, Jules. I am done having kids now and had the Essure procedure done to close off my tubes. It's awesome. – sherpamelissa Jun 24 2011 at 12:30

Luckily for my husband that was a very pleasant side affect. I was not expecting that to go from pretty good to porn-star awesome! That is all I can say without getting too embarrassed here LOL!

My sex drive has dramatically increased in the 4-months that I've been Paleo. I've always had a very healthy appetite for naked times but now? Holy hell, I'm literally frisky all the time. I've never had orgasm issues, normal usually one-per, but last week had three during a sexy times romp. Three! I say it’s definitely the Paleo diet/lifestyle. I truly feel zingy all the time since the switch, truly more alive and in-tune with myself and am happy to see I'm not the only one who is wanting to pounce all the time :) So glad that I found this thread and not be shy about the responding to it. You gotta ask to know, right? :)

Definitely higher since going Paleo. If I have a somewhat-higher carb day (maybe a potato and some wine), I can't get enough the next day. I'm not sure what the connection is, but my husband sure isn't complaining!

My sex drive is extremely healthy and hasn't changed at all. But the intensity of my orgasms seems to have declined slightly and it does coincide with my transition to paleo.

I'm a male. When I was in my early 20's (SAD), I had sex 2-4 times a week (and significantly more for 9 months in the period I was 20-21). Now I'm 28. Sigh I only have sex 2-3 times a week. Normally, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Every morning I'm reminded just how strong my will to reproduce is and on nights/mornings when this drive is stronger I have quite vivid dreams.

In my 7th year of sex (27, and transition to Paleo), there was a slight decline, but that was due to the hormone suppressing effects of running 90-120 miles per week. A slight tweak in my training changed this.

There are 2-3 things I think make my drive stronger besides my curiosity:

5 raw chicken egg yolks (or 12-13 Quail egg yolks) in 100ml of cream twice a day (first thing in the morning and last thing before bed). Sometimes I add 100ml of milk as well.

2 small cups of coffee in the morning each one with 1 tablespoon of Great Lakes beef gelatin and 1 tablespoon of Spectrum expeller pressed virgin coconut oil.

Limit protein to < 100g per day sourced mostly from fatty pork.

[Optional:

Sex is fascinating. I think about it all the time, not in the traditional sense. I believe sex especially in humans is not given enough credit as the source of our behaviors (and not just the obvious sexual behaviors). We like to pretend that we are intelligent (and we are in a sense) and that we are in control of our behaviors and interests (but I don't think that complicated behavior is a accurate marker for measuring intelligence). I think sometimes, but not all times, our interests and behaviors and curiosity are a manifestation conflicts between our "biological brain" and intelligence seeking ways to reproduce. Lately, I've been playing with the idea that our intelligence might be driven by that conflict at least in part if not more.

Additionally, I do a lot of experimentation with chains and whips--just kidding--additionally I do a lot of experimentation with very simple things like facial hair, how I dress, what shoes I wear, etc. and pay close attention to the demographic of females I attract. In these instances of experimentation I'm looking for attraction but I don't engage. Fascinating.]

Did I say different? LOL Those sexual statistics are different women prior to 2004 and a different but single person entered the picture November 2004. Same woman since then; my wife. The secret is to learn how to become independently dependent on one another. Only then will free flowing sex burst like a Geyser *characterized by intermittent discharge of water ejected turbulently and accompanied by a vapour phase (steam) from the Earth's crust. *taken from wiki: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/49/… – Edward J. BTW... it never hurts to politely ask someone to have sex with you even if it is someone you're in a relationship with. A simple "Would you like to have sex with me?" will do. The worst that can happen is "no". – Edward J. Edmonds Jun 24 2011 at 11:11

What makes that approach work is the silliness of even asking and once you get over the embarrassment aspect of it it's actually quite a flattering thing to ask. And also quite honest. Honesty and the insecurity of not knowing whether he/she will say "yes" or "no" is a turn on in a lot of instances. – Edward J. Edmonds Jun 24 2011 at 11:14

Mine is through the roof. Seriously...I was so worried about the daily morning pup-tent that I asked my doctor if there could be something wrong.

Could be, I suppose, the 45 lbs that I lost. Whatever it is, I am not changing a thing!

BTW, I am a 43 y.o. male. I eat VLC Paleo, a little cheese.

Mine seems to have dropped off a bit. Maybe I need to add more carbs into my personal mix? Timing is a big issue for my wife and I as well: I prefer it early first thing when I wake up, where as she prefers sex late at night. I don't like late at night because I wake up at 4:30 - 5:00 am, and she doesn't like when I wake up because she likes to sleep.

I can't wait until I leave my current job and free up my evenings...

Since I've been VLC I really haven't had much of a sex drive. I'm interested in the "feast" and "famine" idea expressed in other comments. Although, I noticed that my stamina has increased, when I do partake.

No change - 1 to 2 hours of deliciously slow sex every other day* - though I think it's too soon to tell for us, we've only been doing primal thing a couple of months.

As a 33 year old woman with PCOS I find that since going VLC/ZC my sex drive has nearly disappeared whereas previously I had the sex drive of a 17 year old boy. I'm sure it's a matter of my hormones stabilizing but I'm not really loving this extreme drop in libido. Unfortunately I seem to lose weight better and feel better overall by eating VLC/ZC so it's not really an option to jack up the carbs.

The funny thing is I remember learning in college that graham crackers and cereals were invented to kill a woman's sex drive. I always assumed carbs were the culprit behind that but now I'm not so sure.

Mine increased but it seems to be controlled : I don't feel the urge, but I'm still potent :D. I've only been a week on strict paleo though.
