I'm moving soon and my refrigerator is being taken away tonight. I have about 10 days I need to live in my current place with way to keep food. What are some good bacon/egg replacements that I can use in the mean time? Or should I just fast until lunch?

You can bake sweet potatoes and keep them at room temperature with no problem. Also tinned fish obviously needs no refrigeration, if you can stomach fish in the morning.

This may be a good option. I live in Japan have good access to sweet potato and tinned fish. – Adam Jun 26 2011 at 7:41
This may sound weird, but I love sweet potatoes that way. I half cook them and then finish them off in slices in a frying pan with coconut oil. They taste good for the next two days! – Jennifer Jun 26 2011 at 14:45

Eggs don't have to be refrigerated, they are just significantly fresher that way.

Yes! I used to live in Australia and they were sold off a room-temperature shelf there. Never had a problem! – Adah Jun 26 2011 at 2:25
Wow, I can't say I've ever thought about leaving my eggs out. Would this be ok if I bought them cold? – Adam Jun 26 2011 at 7:41
Eggs are not sold from fridges in the UK and my mother told me never to put them in the fridge - can't remember why. – queen of the stone age Jun 26 2011 at 9:19

I think this only works with free-range eggs. Or at least it's safer with eggs straight from the farm. When hens lay eggs, they have a protective membrane that keeps out bacteria, but in factory farms this gets destroyed, which is why store eggs are refrigerated. – Lizzish Jun 26 2011 at 10:31
I did this for years. I never put eggs in the refrigerator. I have my own chickens and ducks now, but back then I bought them at the store, and I never had one go bad. – Nita Jun 26 2011 at 13:04

worse case senario is get a small cooler and ice, bag all your food and set inside. Thats rough!! fruits and veggies nor eggs have to be refridgerated.

Once I kept avocados and a block of parmesan cheese in a hotel drawer (along with my cutting board and knives at the ready).

Yeah, it's not ideal but I might not have much choice. For dinner it's no big deal as I can shop, cook, and eat everything immediately. – Adam Jun 26 2011 at 22:58

I second the fish thing as an easy room-temperature go-to, and while not a packaged product fan, Paleo-kits come in handy in a bind. Buy some or make your own.

I've lived in Europe since '06, most eggs are sold room temp. Sealed yogurt, milk, kefir will all keep for several days before they become a significant concern. Of course tuna and jerky will work as well as baked potatoes. I keep my butter out at room temp as well as coconut oil. All the body needs.
