So obnoxious how they end the article with recommending a plant based high protein diet... which always reads out to readers as "EAT MORE QUINOA AND BEANS!!!"

How do you take studies like these and share them while tilting it towards paleo when the articles always stop short of recommending a higher fat lower carb natural diet?

Especially interesting to read the comments after the article. – Annie Jun 27 2011 at 14:55
I read a study this weekend about a population of people who have low IGF1 and Insulin receptors. THey are basically immune to cancer and other chronic diseases. THey are also dwarfs. PS - I grew up in Burrillville and went to Mt St Charles in Woonsocket. How's RI these days? – none Jun 27 2011 at 14:58
Re quinoua. Yes, I'd like my gut lining to look like a basketball net, thanks! :P – gilliebean Jun 27 2011 at 15:58
Yeah I tried quinoa a few times (pre-paleo.) Every time I tried it I threw up. I thought it was something else the first two times. HAHAHA – Aughra Jun 27 2011 at 23:35

This study is really flawed. The researchers had an extreme anti-fat bias based on two previous publications which were less than worthy of publication. Also, mice studies such as these are often based on mouse chow that is full of isolated junk, such as sucrose and seed oils. Also, 60% protein? While it is a good start, if they would have used a 'paleo' or low-carb mouse chow based on good fat the results would have been even more impressive.

These are good criticisms. Nevertheless, the camel's nose is beginning to poke into the tent. :) – Rose Jun 27 2011 at 15:03
I don't think I want a camel in my tent... – Sara Jun 27 2011 at 15:40
snort Well, I'm thinking it's the medical community's tent. One camel, special deliver, coming right up. ;) – Rose Jun 27 2011 at 16:00
