I'm 7 weeks pregnant and have been eating Paleo for the past 5 months, I have been eating my usual meals but lately I've been feeling really hungry and would like to add some snacks other than fruit or nuts that will be filling nourishing for my baby. What do you suggest?

are you feeling good so far? By 7 weeks I was throwing up after every meal. Hope you're feeling good! Maybe a hard boiled egg for snack? – thatonecrazylady Jun 27 2011 at 23:47

You may want to puke at this suggestion - but when I was pregnant this last go round I wanted anchovies, liver (chicken pate), fish eggs, seaweed, sardines, stuff like that. If you read Nourishing Traditions these things are right up there for baby growing food.

I ate a crap ton of bone marrow, cod liver in its own oil, eggs, and salmon roe after I got over the 1st trimester. I wasn't Paleo or WAPF at that point. I just craved that shit like mad!! – Aughra Jun 27 2011 at 23:41

ME too! Sea creatures were high on my list! Whenever I saw an aquarium I would lick the side of the glass. It's too bad we lived in SE Utah at the time. THe desert is NOT a good place to crave fish. – none Jun 27 2011 at 23:46

Point for words like "crap ton" - I'll prolly use it often. – none Jun 27 2011 at 23:47
I'm pregnant and was somehow hoping I'd start craving liver, etc but it just hasn't happened! mostly I'm craving things like bagels, boo :( but I agree the hardboiled eggs are a great snack! I've also been eating full fat greek yogurt with sliced berries - good if you're doing dairy. – ritz Jun 28 2011 at 0:57

Fish eggs are rich in natural Vitamin D and DHA/EPA. Eat with some Creme' fraiche or european style sour cream

Pate'

If you are dairy free try to see if you can tolerate clarified butter/ghee for the K2

Roasted bone marrow

Canned Sardines in olive oil, Canned Cod liver in its own oil

Home Made Kale chips (There are lots of recipes on the web)

Lots of hard or soft boiled pastured eggs

REAL protein cookies if you are craving sweets http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/2010/04/video-thursday-real-protein-cookies/

on top of all that other stuff being mentioned, I found it worked out best if I had a Lara bar in my purse at all times.

And as soon as I mentioned this, I saw no fruits or nuts. Whoops. Carrot sticks dipped in melted butter with garlic powder, yogurt was also one I really enjoyed while pregnant. – Sara Jun 28 2011 at 0:31
