I was listening to Chris Kressers recent podcast on magnesium and constipation and he commented that citrate and malate cause the stools to hold more water hence loser stools. I have experienced this frequently with Natural Calm (citrate). Chris recommended magnesium glycinate and it promotes better absorption. Has anyone used this form magnesium and if so do you have any brand recommendations?

you had issues with nat calm even after following the instructions on the label and starting with very small amounts and then gradually increasing the amounts? just curious. – ben61820 Jun 28 2011 at 11:57
Been using it for a year and have always had the same issue but i thought it was from an unrelated issue until I listened to chris' podcast. – hemanvt Jun 28 2011 at 19:42

I'm after buying Magnesium Glycinate by Solgar as recommended by the folks at the Perfect Health Diet here: http://perfecthealthdiet.com/?page_id=1066

I also listened to this podcast with interest as I have had problems with magnesium citrate. I found this at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BD0RT0/ref=lst_llp_sl-0

Has anyone here used this. It says it is chelated magnesium glycinate.

I've heard good things about this, never tried it though.

I also use this one and i'm pretty happy with it. I used to take the Natural Calm stuff and the stools were a bit messy... – Flavio M. Jun 28 2011 at 10:29
Not to mention that it made me feel a bit weird – Flavio M. Jun 28 2011 at 10:30

Just started taking the mag glycinate over the weekend. My osteopath recommended it for post workout soreness and better sleep. It seems to be working well in the short time I've used it - I'm less sore than usual the day after an intense workout. Maybe a coincidence, so I'll have to see over the next month.

I use Magnesium Glycinate for migraines- 400mg, once at bedtime. Sometimes in the AM, too, if I'm having a rough week. I use the KAL brand, as it's what my local place stocks. Works great.

I love to use KAL magnesium glycinate. I found that it's best to take it in the beginning of the day. It will do wonders for my blood pressure and digestive system. It also keeps me calm through the day.

The Kresser himself recommends Pure Encapsulations.

Been using it for a couple months and like it. Haven't noticed any ill effects. By all accounts they make very high quality supps.
