I did a whole 30 last month and transitioned directly into full raw eating (been On it a week, no meat but eat raw cheese). Self-experiments are fun and I want to see how it affects me (I feel like I need to defend myself because there is so much raw/vegan bashing on this site.) I lost 10 lbs on whole30 but none in the past week eating raw (mostly smoothies and salads with lots of veggies, some nuts, hemp flax and chia seeds). My main question is of anyone eats a primarily raw paleo diet. I still consider how I'm eating to be paleo. I'd like to do a month like this and then add cooked meat back in. Please no raw/vegan bitching. Thanks for your thoughts on this.
No bitching from me. I have great respect for all who try to eat intelligently and purposefully. I have never done raw but I have collected many of their recipes over the years just to incorporate more raw food into my diet and love them all. It's a nice way to eat when it's hot outside. Honestly I'm totally fascinated with that bunch. I call them the MacGyvers of food. The beautiful, incredible creations they make out of almost nothing is nothing short of amazing. They certainly have some brilliant chefs among their ranks. That community also convinced me to buy a Spiralizer and it's one of my most beloved kitchen gadgets of all time. I'll never eat zucchini noodles made from a peeler again!
Some might give you a bit of flack for the chia, hemp and flax but you have to do what seems right to you. I hope it's a great month for you and good luck!

Years ago though I got into raw foodism. This was before paleo and pre-WAP for me. I always kept meat in my eating, just not in large quantities and I cooked it. So, though it sounds somewhat silly to me now, I ate cooked animals and then everything else was raw. I read tons about the enzymes, quasi-paleo-like arguments about how humans spent lots of time evolutionarily without really harnessing fire as a cooking medium, etc. I essentially ate salads with meat. No weirdness, really. It was an easy WOE socially, too.
I thought I was doing the best thing for me but I was really skinny. I mean, I ate like this for over two years and by the end I was seriously thin. Like, not-good thin. Thinking back now I think it was just an inadvertent long term caloric-deficit. I mean it takes a LOT of salad and bits of cooked meat to get something like 2500-3000 cals yknow?
I think one can thrive on this WOE but I would caution that it prolly takes a larger quantity of food than you realize. So, if you do it long term just keep an eye on your body comp and if you start withering away, eat more stuff.
It's my opinion we are intelligent as we are because we started cooking.
When I was doing a raw diet someone asked me, "do you want to devolve?". At the time I thought he was a joke but I realized he was probably right.
I eat a ton of raw eggs (5/day), and when I eat raw meat I feel really good. I can't have it (meat) too often though cos it leaves me too 'cold' inside, but I usually sear my ground beef/bison so it's pretty cold inside.
I also eat raw cheese, raw butter, raw sauerkraut, occasional raw yogurt and I used to drink raw milk but I've eliminated that for the better.

I think that eating raw can be perfectly in line withg paleo principles. So do the people at this site:

I've had bouts of raw-food eating in my veg*n past. I've never spent more time in the kitchen as when I was eating raw. Fun though. I made my own larabars and stuff. Raw cashew cheese. I learned a lot, but it wasn't really sustainable for me. You have to eat a LOT. It was kind of hard not to be hungry all the time. I ate tons of fruit (which as it turns out isn't that good for me). Of course I felt pretty amazing tho - I wasn't eating gluten, duh. Didn't put that together until much later.

Yea eat all paleo & Raw food for the last few months. If I have something like fish that I don't want to cook I will cure it with lemon juice. There are tons of recipes out there for raw food too so it's pretty good. am just coming off the raw restriction now though as I have tightened my diet considerably, am more pescarterian than vegetarian, however may occasionally eat a bit of meat, usually only very fresh lean meat such as veal or lamb leg etc, but not often at all. Am very happy with a vege diet mixed with good things like amaranth, quinoa, buckwheat etc (which I am starting to have now I am beginning to cook slighhtly), am doing the wheat free thing fully so am being quite restricted, have to open up to a minimal amount of cooking. Have been seeing a naturopath and am living by the blood-type restrictions. So in answer to your question - yes I have been eating only a raw paleo diet, and now am more restricted in some ways with the blood-type diet, yet have a bit more freedom with meal prep styles too. Have found I am feeling best with this blood-type range of food. Makes great sense also when looking at it from a biological point of view as it combines raw, paleo and what your body is designed to process the best.
