My Dad had prostate cancer 10 years ago... He overcame the cancer and is healthy today, but obviously takes precautions as to his prostate health. I have been trying to get him to eat paleo for a while now, but he doesn't listen to me.. mainly because his doctors' advice is almost always the opposite of what I tell him.
I went to his house this weekend and saw soymilk in his fridge, and that just set me off. He said that his doctor told him to drink it for prostate health. He told me that he has been eating edemame and other soy products now due to his doctors recommendation. As you can imagine.. getting cancer scared the hell out of him, so he does everything his doctor says. I told him some of the general stuff about the problems associated with soy that I know from reading WAPF articles and such. However, he listens to his doctor over me.
What do you guys think about soy and prostate health. I don't want to tell him to not listen to his doctor if his doctor has some basis for what he is saying. But on the other hand, it is my freaking Dad! and it pisses me off to see him gain weight and have low confidence in his physical appearance because he is eating crap from his doctor's recommendation.
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to help because it lowers testosterone.
Not sure how old your dad is but maybe his body is malfunctioned and lower testosterone will give him no prostate cancer.
We have a friend with recurring prostate cancer (rising PSA after treatment). He took part in a study involving soy, where he ate a couple slices of a special very-high-soy bread every day. I don't know the final results of the study, but it DID reduce our friend's PSA.
I won't argue with that! Or try to convince him not to use it. It may be that in certain cases, the benefit outweighs the harm.
If he eats a good balanced diet (soy is just fine) and takes a natural supplement for the prostate, he should stay healthy. He needs to exercise too. Ask him to read Super Beta Prostate reviews and maybe he'll be able to identify with the someone else.
