Don't forget about condoms. You could also look into fertility charting. |

I would recommend reading "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" ASAP. Fertility awareness mixed with some self-restraint on the part of my husband has worked quite well for us. Cervical caps are good too. I like that you can leave them in for 48 hours, and even make your own spermicide if you are sensitive to chemicals. |

Look into getting a diaphragm. Have used one for 20+ years with no problems. |

Read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility", then:
1) Track your morning temperature and your cervical fluid, takes 30 seconds every day. That's all there is to it. |

Please look up the LadyComp. I've used it for five years and have never had a problem. Never. It actually was the one device that let me know that I was not ovulating due to celiac disease. There are pharmacies in Canada you can order it from. It is not cheap, but well worth it in the long term. Good luck! |

Honestly, I'd try the IUD again. It really is your best bet. FAM, which I used for years, is great if you actually use it as intended but damn, damn, damn it's hard to abstain when fertile and if you're not going to abstain when fertile then condoms, diaphragm or cervical cap becomes necessary anyway.... |

Women don't have "vasectomies" men have them. Women have their tubes tied which can cause early menopause to occur. Google it. |

You could try the VCG, Vaginal Contraceptive Film. You can google it and find out more. It is completely hormone free. |

I had cancer so I could not use anything with hormones. What I could use was a Copper IUD. I had no problems at all with it, not even heavy bleeding like some have claimed. It just felt a little weird the first week. After that I never noticed it. |

Are you long-term monogamous, and finished reproducing? If so, a vasectomy might be your best bet. It's very safe and effective, and obviously won't give your body any problems. |

I recently read an article about the LadyComp that LastingOne mentioned above. It sounds totally bomb! http://thehairpin.com/2011/06/lady-comp-how-i-quit-hormones You take your temperature with the machine every morning, and it tells you what days it's safe to get busy. Awesome. |

Condoms, spermicide, feminine condoms Whole 9 actually has a really good guide to hormone free birth control: |

I use condoms all the time (found out that hormones are out for me for life because of a migraine condition during puberty which puts me at high risk for stroke). I, however, really really couldn't handle any accidental pregnancy so I made an appt at the local clinic to talk about a cervical cap fitting. I want to track my ovulation, and on my ovulating days combine the use of a cervical cap and condom. This is a low commitment option at least, but the use of a condom requires the cooperation of both partners. I did use condoms successfully for over 2 years as my only birth control, but I like the idea of having a back up in case of failure, hence the idea to do ovulation tracking/cervical cap. |
