Looking to implement tons of smoothies, I add my Whey protein but looking for some great things to add to my smoothie. Please help!! Can't do Peanut Butter anymore
To quote the inimitable Melissa McEwen, "Smoothies are just diluted baby food."
I recommend against them. Maybe this isn't helpful, but you really shouldn't be drinking your calories.
My low sugar, high fat recipe:
1 cup spinach
handful frozen berries
1/2 can coconut milk
2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
1-2 tablespoons cocoa powder
dash vanilla extract
water as needed
can also add:
Tastes like dark chocolate with a dash of cinnamon.
I think a protein smoothie post WOD is okay. Here's my recipe-
1 scoop Bluebonnet protein powder
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
4 frozen strawberries
1 cup coconut water
1/4 cup coconut milk
Blend and enjoy :)
Holy crap I just made a smoothie. I use mine with fruit, it makes me feel like I'm eating a sweet. I do 5 large strawberrys, 3 oz of blueberrys, and 3 oz raspberries. Some ice and bit of spring water. I lost 40 lbs so I have no weight to lose. Sounds like you might be shooting for calories and protein.
Depends on my goals.
Some days I will use a smoothie as a meal replacement after a fast or if I'm in a hurry. Other times I do either a pre-WO or PWO smoothie that has added carbs (in the form of fruits/berries).
My basic recipe:
1 cup raw, heavy cream (AVOID Carageenan)
1-2 egg yolks
1/2 cup water
1 packet stevia (if I'm not using berries/fruits for carbs/sweetness)
2 TBsp Ghirardelli raw cocoa powder
1-2 TBsp almond/cashew butter
1/2 can coconut milk
2-3 large frozen strawbs
handfuls of bluebs, blabs or razbs
1/2 or whole banana depending on carb goals for pre/PWO
Here are some flavour profiles that I've been playing with that you may like. They were done as the "frozen treat" variety but it's nothing to sub them as drinkable options. I have what I've used as the liquid but definitely whatever your preference is :) Like @animalcule I make my own ice cream - either Philly or with a traditional custard base, gelato, and sorbet. My fingerprints are all over it so I know exactly what's going in and can keep track of the carbs, protein, etc. Weirdly I don't care for smoothies and prefer spoon to mouth. Who knows why.. maybe so the deliciousness lasts longer? Hmm :)
Also - you can do any of these in popsicle form. A different but no less effective vehicle to get your nutrition and to mix things up. Enjoy!
