"Due to the anatomic features of dentition and gastrointestinal tract, humans are coctivors compared to great apes. They depend on prepared, easily digestible food. High energy output from food at low digestion rate has only become possible by using fire and, later on, developing kitchen technology. It has generated resources to enlarge the human brain quickly. Insofar, the place to cook has played a key role in human evolution."
Great book called "Catching Fire how cooking made us human" by Richard Wrangham. It is an absolutely fascinating read and argues persuasively that humans have been eating cooked food for a very long time - if I remember correctly, from 250K years to possibly as long ago as 750K years.
About the only raw food which I eat personally are fruit, berries and sauerkraut - and having read the book, I feel happy with that!!
Modern Homo Sapiens originated near Omo, Africa. We found the oldest Homo sapiens remains there, and it is most likely that we exited the rich tropical forest from its West. We can't find older Homo sapiens remains in the jungle, because it is not a conducive area to fossilization. The rich MAOIs, antioxidants, hormone suppressants, and rich flavanoids in raw fruit most likely contributed to our rapid expansion in brain size.Homo habilis is an older species that exited the forest much earlier than us, less prime for imitation than our frugivore cousins in their tropical forest home.
The expensive tissue hypothesis is not complete and has been debunked by many people. Here is a great article titled: Its Curtains for the Expensive Tissue Hypothesis. We are different than other primates because we were fruit specialists, we felt more of an attraction to fruits and shoots than our other frugivorous cousins, giving us more of the essential components to our evolution. @Matt 11 is just so butthurt that his illusions of health have been shattered he won't consider the most scientifically sound theory of our evolution since Darwinism.
