So many of you know that I started paleo about 6 months ago after finally leaving the beer industry. I still have many friends there and an annual ritual that we have is a veggie dog eating contest at a neighborhood festival, that is coming up this weekend. On top of it, instead of dunking the dogs in water, we use craft beer. Normally I would just laugh off something like this and say something like "thats my old life" but I won last year so I feel kinda obligated to at least attempt to defend my crown. Also its for a good cause, and it is a lot of fun with good friends.
My question is that being that I will in 5 minutes be ingesting more processed foods and wheat products than I have in the last 6 months, what is my reaction going to be like? Of course, I know everyones tolerances are different, but I am looking to hear some real life stories of when you totally went off the diet and what it did to you.
Update
Well, I have officially relinquished my crown as the veggie dog eating champion. I lost my half a dog, which is ok, as the champ is obligated to defend, so I have an out for next year.
The only coverage i can find right now is a pic of the setup http://twitpic.com/5np5m2 thats me in the blue plaid shirt. There are a lot more pics, but mostly on facebook.
The official aftermath is rather boring. Yeah, I had a bit bloated and upset, but no near as bad as I figured it would be. I had a guy bring some Underberg, which is a German digestif, for afterwards, which I think helped a lot. I'm feeling totally normal now, a bit of whiskey afterwards helped as well I think.
So the take away is that I can handle some indulgences from time to time. Of course, we will have to see what happens tomorrow.
