I'm 127 lbs, 5' 3, and wanting to lose 15-17 lbs. I want to be 110 lbs because that's a good BMI for me and I just want to be more healthy overall. Currently, I work out everyday except Tuesdays. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays I do 15 min of weight/circuit training, and 15 min of running. Thursdays I do 45 min of dancing... So I have been doing Paleo for only a week, and before Paleo I was limiting my carb intake. I feel like Paleo isn't working on me! I am doing everything right, the most actual carbs I have is 2 fruits per day. I do have nuts a lot though, so is that a problem? What am I doing wrong? I am really eating lots of meat, fat, and leafy greens. It has only been the first week... I've lost like 1-1.5 lbs so far, and when do you think I can lose 15 lbs by? I was striving for the end of December this year... good goal?
Just. Calm Down.
I'm gonna tell you something you're not going to want to hear: weight loss within a 'normal' BMI range is notoriously slow. 1.5 lb a week is practically a miracle at this rate.
You have three things wrong here:
1. Paleo is about weight loss. No. It's about your health, happiness, peace of mind, and getting rid of the dietary/stress baggage that keeps your existence subpar. Weight loss naturally follows. If you don't care about anything other than weight loss with paleo, the odds are that it's just a 'diet' and you'll either drop it or go back to SAD eating when you feel like you've reached your weightloss goals and gain the weight back. Find another goal, like overall well being, which weight loss may or may not be a part off.
2. I should lose weight as quickly as I want. No. You should lose weight as quickly as your body can handle and is safe for it while still properly nourishing it.
3. One week is a reasonable amount of time to try anything new. No. Every day I deal with people who want quick results now. If it doesn't work fast, it isn't going to work. The fact is that change takes time. It's taken me four months to lose 13 lbs now that I'm a healthy weight range. It might take you the same. I always say, give major changes a MINIMUM of SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS. Yes, Six. To. Eight. Weeks. We're fixing your hormones here, this'll probably actually take 6 months to a year.
My suggestion. Reassess why you're doing such a major life overhaul and while you're at it, consider if you're freaking out because the diet changes are actually working and your body is going through a 'withdrawal' period at taking out certain foods. After the first week of dropping grains and hormone treated dairy my stress was up, too. This is pretty normal, but you have to have things in perspective to get through it.
Honestly, I think 110 lbs at 5'3 is a bit low... Your body is going to take a long time to get that low, and granted, you will lose some weight with clean eating.. but you also have to remember that muscle weighs more than fat and you will find that you will look thinner, but probably not necessarily weigh less (or your "ideal" weight). be calm and dont freak out...
