Does anybody have a good recipe?

Nuts and dries fruit is all there is for you. I wouldn't advise eating that but it's the closest to a boxed cereal – ben61820 Jul 9 2011 at 1:31

Have no fear! Paleo/Primal breakfast "cereal" is here!

As a reformed breakfast cereal addict, I have had moments where I needed something cold and crunchy in the morning.

The BEST alternative that I have come up with so far is a muesli based on unsweetened coconut flakes (not shredded) with almond milk (or pastured half and half), cocoa nibs (or chopped unsweetened chocolate), some dried fruit (gogi berries, organic raisins, etc.) and a dash of cinnamon.

You can check out a more in depth recipe and some pics here...

I used all raw ingredients in mine, but I don't see why you could lightly toast the coconut as I'm sure it would taste delightful.

Thanks! I've tried this with chopped firm-fleshed apples as well, but I still think that coconut flakes are the best non-cereal cereal. – FED at LiveCaveman.com Jul 9 2011 at 15:45

I often like to dream up recipies before I make them. I've made some of my best home brews this way pre-paleo. I got the inspiration for this from the no-atmeal recipe on MDA and plan to try it out soon. Here is a sneak peek.

Ryan Wilder's Big Nuts Breakfast

Get some nuts. A good handful of nuts (I'd go walnuts, pecans, almonds). You got your nuts in your hand? Good. Now chuck them in the food processor. Don't over work your nuts- keep them coarse. Now take your nuts and warm them in a skillet with just a touch of butter (or fat of your choice). Add some cinnamon, ground ginger, and nutmeg. Don't measure. Just go with what feels right. Really feeling squirrely? Stir in a small squirt of honey.

So there it is. Now you can add this to Greek yogurt, coconut milk, or eat it straight up. Whatever you do, just be sure to thoroughly enjoy your nuts.

Not quite granola, but granola "bars" or bites. They're crumbly when I make them though:

They are quite too yummy for to me make on a regular basis though!

I agree, toasted coconut, slivered toasted nuts will provide a granola effect. I also make these lara bars and if I add more almond butter and toast them up, I can crumble them and have the same effect like granola.

you just have to get creative!!
