Hey guys, another poop question, my poop is hard, lumpy & difficult to pass, sometimes like stone. I eat pretty well, lots of grassfed meat, lots of fat, some veggies, starch, bit of fruit, sauerkraut etc..I also use a squat pad to poop. Once a week ill have a blow out, Kebab with wrap, loads of chocolate, crisps etc..i really pig out. The only time my poop is soft & easy to pass is the day after this pig out, whereas my poop usually ranges from 1-2 on the bristol stool scale when i'm eating well, it goes to 3-4 after my pig out. I have experimented with 2-3 days eating crap & my poop is still definitely better (although it smells a bit more than usual). I am baffled by this really, i have no noticeable gi symptoms apart from a low dull ache around my colon when eating well. (i recently did gluten free for 3 weeks to see if i have issues, i don't) Has anyone any suggestions on this, it's really starting to bother me & i obviously don't want to go back to eating grains & other crap again every day just to alleviate this. Any advice would be massively appreciated guys. I can relate - as I have had similar problems. Perhaps you have a lack of magnesium, which most people do by the way. You could check www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/magnesium-deficiency-symptoms-and-diagnosis .. Another thing I tried that helped me was diatomaceous earth, which is silica and includes trace minerals. I don't really know why it helps altho it is supposed to be good for your gut because it gets rid of parasites. Actually, I eat a tablespoon a day in food or drink and with that and keeping up on the magnesium, I am much more normal meaning I can go every day and softer stools too.
It sounds like to me you're having a healthy diet high in fibre; especially if you take any sort of fibre supplements. Fibre is what helps your gut clean itself out and hold\pull all of your solid waste together for passing.
While I've been doing this paleo thing my stool has definitely been firmer, more compact and less in volume, though I can't say I've ever felt the need to measure the firmness of my stool, or even knew that there was such a strange measurement. :P
@kathleenes.. thank you very much for pointing this out...i would have never have thought about deficiencies had you not mentioned it! I will deffo try some magnesium as i have had a look at my old fitday logs & i only averaged about 40% rda on a good day!! I will also look into diatomaceous earth. Much appreciated.
