Now this has been going on for a while now. When I fall asleep at night, I have trouble waking up. I usually sleep for 8 hours no matter what. If I fall asleep at night, and it is now 5 hours later and time to wake up, people will bang on my door to wake me up, and my alarms will go off, but apparently I will mumble something and go back to sleep with no memory of it happening. This has become worrisome because I now have to start waking up at 6AM, and though for the days I am meant to wake up early I do, I am fearing that it will get to the stage that I am no longer able to wake up early from my alarms on those days. Earlier today, as well, as I was getting a headache, I decided to lie down, and woke up 4 hours later, at 5 in the afternoon, meaning most of my day was slept away. I have no idea what is causing this to happen, and was wondering if anyone knew what it may be, or any way to help.
I have dealt with this for the last 12 years and it is from a couple of things. At the worst I was sleeping from 15 to 18 hours a day. At my best it was12 to 15. For me, this is because when I sleep at night I don't get into /or enough of the Stage 3 (Restorative rest) and once my Dr find the right med I now go to bed at ten and I wake up at 6 to 7 am. Also, having a biotoxin illness (confirmed with lab tests) I was living in an apt with mold exposure and every night I fell asleep and simply could not wake. After the apt was remediated and mold free I went down to 12 hours and now that I am actually getting restorative rest I am normal after 12 long years. This took the last two years to fix. Good Luck.
I was reading something the other day about circadian cycles. Light exposure at the right time. Darkness at the right time. What is the level of light in your house during the day? Should be bright. My problem was more with broken up periods of sleep. I'd wake up at 2 and not get back to sleep until 4...then awake at 6am. I adjusted a few things myself and it GREATLY improved me getting up in the middle of the night.
How is the clutter level in your house? This affects people too. I'm not Feng Shui or anything, but I know quite a few people that believe that their mixed up chi was causing it.
