I LOVE onions! I could eat them until they come out of my ears! I know they are super healthy for you and have quite a bit of anti-oxidants in them. I eat probably 1 small to medium onion a day. While I'm on paleo, I'm trying to lose weight and doing low carb. Is eating an onion a day sabotaging my weight-loss?
You know, onion, like hot peppers, is one of those foods that some people believe aren't "Paleo" because "no way anyone living in the wild could enjoy eating this raw". The people who say that are probably communists and should be federally investigated.
I, like you, love me some onion nearly everyday. I typically cook it as part of a massive stir-fry, but try and stop me from snacking on it raw. I say bite into that onion and savor the tears!
In regards to weight loss, your onion addiction will only yield positive results. Good for you, go get 'em.
In regards to your social life, you may lose a friend or two, colleagues won't linger around your desk as often, and you will have fewer opportunities to attract a mate. But the ones you do attract you know are keepers.
An onion probably has about 8-30 grams of carbs depending on size and type - you're in the clear! Rule of thumb, the sweeter the onion the more carbie. How many grams of carbs are you shooting for in a day? What other carb sources do you eat? Just go for the plain old yellow onion or cooking onions, nothing too sweet or exotic, and the less cooked, i think, the less effective carbs? Raw being harder to digest and there for better on a weight loss diet...
I can't get enough onions either! Tricia and I put garlic and onions all over everything we can.
